It's just ok

Very rustic! Dirt sites that are barely wide enough for your awning to not hit the RV next to you. This is mostly a tent campground, with many tent sites. There's only about a dozen RV sites and all but 3 are permanent residents. The gate is closed and padlocked 24/7 which makes it a pain to get in and out. The draw here is the San Gabriel River, which was nice. There is nothing within walking distance other than the river. Be safe driving around here! The road is very windy and we saw 2 accidents on our way out. One was severe and the driver had to be airlifted out.

Fun in the San Gabriel Mountains

This is a fun little camping spot just noted of Azusa. It caters more to the tent camper as there are only a few spots with hookups. There are another handful of sites that can accommodate an under 35 footer dry camping. All sites have access to the San Gabriel river that flows year round. The place is clean but has some full timers living along side the campers. The full timers don't seem to play the same rules ( keeping dogs on a leash or sound restrictions) as campers. The price is a little steep at 50 bucks a night but I'm sure that keeps the riff-raff away. I give this 4 stars only for the river access. Having all my kids in the water building dams and swimming in the river was fantastic. Without the river this place is a 2 star. If they moved out the full timers living there in trailers, mobile homes and busted down Class A's ( in truth there are about 5 of them) and opened those spots for more rigs with hook ups it would be great. Note also that they run a cafe with the only food on the east fork, it makes it quaint. Large rigs beware: maneuvering in tight spaces here is sometimes challenging.
