SKP Sumter Oaks

We?ve spent the last 6 weeks here at Sumpter Oaks in Bushnell, FL. AN Escapee Park, Sumter Oaks is a great value for members.

There?s a lot I like about the park and some things that were a challenge.

There?s a lot of natural beauty in the park and that really appeals to me. You can observe mant different bird species, and if you?re lucky see an otter or an alligator. A special treat is the park owners donkeys, two of whom gave birth recently. The baby donkeys are super adorable!

Things I miss that are not in this park. No WiFi of any kind. Our Verizon jet pack worked off and on but connectivity or a lack thereof was really frustrating. I would also have enjoyed a pool or hot tub. Lastly, it?s so far away from everything. We spent so much time (and gas) looking for grocery stores, places to eat, and a Home Depot or Lowe?s. And let?s not forget Starbucks. The nearest is well over 20 miles one way. Ugh.

The staff and volunteers who run the park are really great. Most are friendly and kind. Always willing to answer questions and share local resources.

They have a large activities program but most activities were geared toward knitting, crafts, card games, and the like. Plus they are mostly attended by folks who live here full time or snowbirds who are here 6 months or more. So not very inviting to newcomers with more varied interests.

We will visit again next year and recommend to friends, but at the very least I sure wish they?d get some good, up-to-date WiFi. It important to those of us who work in our rigs and to my husband who can?t live without it.
