Gulf Coast Beautiful Coastal Views
Coastal location. Clean State Park. Family oriented. Pet friendly. Lots of children on bikes, careful when coming and going. Will be back.
Great stop for the night wishing stay longer.
Came in middle of night and needed a place to stay . It was nice to have easy instructions for late comers and no reservations...very clean bathrooms and good spaces. Staff very friendly.
Huge park on the gulf
This park was hit hard by Katrina and lost all of its buildings and lots of trees. But the park has been rebuilt in phases. Phase III, scheduled for 2012, includes the park's camp store, pavilion, laundry facilities, meeting rooms, picnic area, site amenities and Buccaneer Bay Waterpark.
There are 276 sites in all. 149 previous campsites have full-hook ups with paved sites. Royal Cay's 57 sites are gravel. These 206 sites have water, electricity, and sewer. An additional 70 sites are set on a grassy field overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. These sites only have electricity and water services, are open on a limited basis and available by walk-in only. A central dumping station is located a short distance. The bathhouses are new, bright, and very nice. My only hesitation is giving it 5 stars is the lack of shade. There are still many trees standing, but, in the summer, I can't imagine there is much shade.
*PARK NOW RE-OPENED AFTER REPAIR FROM KATRINA and renovation on pool and water park in final phase.
