Great location, popular destination, especially on weekends
A disclaimer--I love Corps of Engineers campgrounds, by far some of the best places we've camped in the USA. This one is no exception ... it would get 5 stars, except for one small thing ... no TP in restrooms on the weekend. Don't know who was responsible for checking on that, however, it was a huge oversight for a crowded, popular campground.
Lake was down when we were there because of the long-term drought in this part of Texas. Lots of Winter Texans stop over here. First-come, first-serve area is almost always full. Make reservations. Only 1/2-hour from I-35 between Austin and San Antonio. 1/2 price w/National Parks Senior Pass.
Great park
This park is really nice. Had a spot right on the water plenty of choices to choose from. I will be going back in the future. It's a national park there is water and electric but no sewer. The dump station isn't far from the lots.
Excellent Group, Family, or Rally Park
Large spacious sites with covered picnic tables, a grill, and a majority have waterfront views of Canyon Lake. There are also family and group sites with picnic tables under a pavilion. Many loops have sites that surround an open field which would be great for rallies. However, there are not many trees in some of these "fields". Husband says the bathrooms are some of the cleanest he has seen - typical of COE parks. Family had fun using a catamaran, jet ski, and kayaks via the convenient boat ramp. For geocachers, there are a couple within easy walking distance of the campground. We would definitely stay here again when in the area.
