Outstanding Park and campground
We stayed in Sagebrush campground in our MotorHome. Facilities were well maintained. Campsites came with picnic table and shelter. Biking and hiking trails were excellent. Great views of Canyon walls from campsite. One of our favorite places to camp.
Palo Duro Canyon
We stayed here for four days while on a cross country trip. The state park has three camping sections. We stayed in the Mesquite Camping area which is the most remote, most rustic, but has the best views. The sites have electric and water. The sites are paved and fairly level. Bath houses are basic and well maintained. There are 3 dump stations in the park. There is a store and cafe in the park. The park is huge and in the bottom of the canyon.
This is an exceptionally beautiful area and camp setting. Its very quiet and there's no cell or TV signals. It can be windy and dusty in the canyon.
The sites are $24 per night but there is a $5 per person per day entrance fee.
Palo Duro Canyon
Beautiful place. Nice campground with good facilities. Take advantage of the live outdoor musical, it's worth the money. Another thing is if you want or need to check in with someone, do it before you enter the canyon. No cell phone or Internet in the bottom. Could be good or bad depending on your point of view.
Would also recommend you arrive during daylight. I wouldn't want to drive those roads for the first time at night. 10% grades!
Wish this was closer to home for weekend trips!

OMGoodness! We just got our travel trailer and wanted to try it out. So we hopped over to this beautiful well kept secret of Texas'. We were very impressed! It was gorgeous and it was winter! The boys loved climbing and exploring! It was way cool to wake up and see turkey in the front yard grazing along with the mule deer. The only drawback was when you spend the night they also charge an admission fee ($5 per person), which seemed a little excessive to me. Everything was in working order and the sites were extremely clean. Very friendly staff!
