Bad experience
We got their early to get a good spot. NOT! They put us in a drive thru right on the road, even though there were plenty of spaces. Between 5-6 both morning and evening service trucks and pickups started coming and going. Very noisy!! We hadn't got a neighbor until about 8: pm so the pickups used the space next to us as a short cut pass thru. It was very unpleasant trying to sit out plus the concrete pad was pretty broken up and a mess too. I would not recommend this place!!
Older Park But Suitable
This is an old KOA that has expanded explosively with the oil boom in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.
There have been two additions to the park that still look like a work in progress though occupied. There are a lot of oil field workers and other long term or permanent residents here, maybe close to half. Their sites are not overtly messy but contain the clutter that is associated with long term trailer living when your "stuff" won't fit inside. We also saw feral cats and many dogs that might have been barred at other parks. Just a lot of growth that happened very fast. I guess control will have to catch up.
Travelers are put in what was the old KOA park of the park, so there are trees and some grass between the sites.
The interior roads used to be blacktop but most of the asphalt is gone leaving just the gravel aggregate behind. There are many potholes. The sites are long enough for most rv's with a tow, we didn't unhook. The sites are old gravel with utilities placed close enough. Sites are close but not unlike many parks; there is a picnic table and a bit of grass lawn at each site. There is a large fenced dog park.
The Wi-fi worked well for us and was consistent all day. Cable tv was good also.
The park is generally maintained and certainly not dirty or junky, but there seems to be a lack of attention. Just not really up to par. The park looks old and tired, but is certainly serviceable.
There are two bathroom locations: one at the office and a free-standing bathroom/shower building out on the grounds. Both are clean and comfortable. We used the building in the park and found it to be clean, but in need of minor repairs or replacement of small missing or broken items. Again just a matter of keeping up with a lot of traffic. There is also a laundry that was workable even though a couple of machines were down.
Everyone mentions the cafe'. It is nice with good home style food.
Clean - Roomy - Great Cafe - Nice Pool
Paved, not parked on top of each other, nice dog park & good cafe!! Would stay there again!!
1night stay
First time here and will come back. Has a restaurant on site with home made food. All for 10.00 a person. Very friendly and ever ting worked well.
Stockton, Texas
Very nice park, friendly hosts! The only issue is the WiFi does not work out in the park, big disappointment!
Nice quiet park
We stayed for One night and enjoyed a clean level pull thru spot for our 38 footer. When we go thru Ft. Stockton again we will be happy to stay there again.
o.k. stay-over
This is quite adequate place for stopping point on the long trip across Wesr Texas. It's a former KOA franchised site, somewhat past its prime, but has basic amenities.
Just outside of town...
We stayed there one night on our way east. It's off the freeway and relatively quiet.
Roads in the part are dirt / gravel. The spaces are level, with a table on grass next to your space.
Wi-fi is available, but it is almost impossible to connect. The lady in the office is very friendly, and was apologetic about the lack of Wi-Fi connection that day.
We are self contained, (38 foot RV), and didn't need to use any of the facilities that the day / evening we stayed, so I can't comment on them.
There is not much in this area as far as attractions that I know.
There was a small store by the office area. I don't remember ice being available.
For a 1 night stay over it not bad.
The park had tress, and was clean, and quiet.
I'd recommend it as a stay over, and if traveling thru, I'd stay there again.
They are a Good Sam member.
Overnight stop
Ok stop just for night or two. This was my 2nd stay here, going east & then returning west. Cafe was excellent on 1st stop & reason to stop again, however, the cafe was closed this time. Cafe is worth the stop if it is open. Ask when call or might want to stay elsewhere given the price. Wifi was not consistently working & often no Internet access.
Short stay
Easy to get to off I-10 couple miles East of Ft. Stockton, Very friendly; small but nice restaurant with great prices; pool but closed; clean, large restrooms; Even with a booster we couldn't get WiFi at the RV, had to walk to the office and sit inside or stand outside after closing.
