Luxury Beyond Compare

You can park for free in an RV parking lot close to the casino, but for a real treat go for the RV Resort campground. You will be greeted as you approach the reservation office, shown where to park, handed a slip of paper with your license number, a second greeter will open the door for you, and a friendly staff will assign you a site according to your preference. Yet another person will guide you to your site and help you park. The park is beautifully landscaped with walking paths along a stream. A free shuttle will take you to the casino for dinning or entertainment of your choice. For a first time visit we paid $34.

Spectacular Scenery

The ocean scape is spectacular here at Harris Beach State Park. The paved campsites are surrounded in lush vegetation. Short hiking trails beckon to be explored. Supplies are close in Brookings. What’s not to like?

Dramatic Landscape

Here is a campground where you can’t help but be awed by the dramatic scenery. Picacho Peak is impressive just from your campsite, but if you’re energetic there are trails to see the peak up close and personal. Spring is the best time to see the wild flower show.

Breath of Fresh Air

After you have blown all your money in the casinos at Laughlin, this could be the breath of fresh air and open space you need to clear your mind. Fairly new and undiscovered, this park feels very spacious. We enjoyed birding along the river’s edge and hiking up into the desert just across the road. Can be windy here.

Scenic Location

We found Morro Bay State Park to be a scenic location for walking and birding. Within the park is a Natural History Museum, a marina, and golf course. You can take a nice walk along Morro Bay which offers outstanding birding, or a longer walk will take you into the village of Morro Bay for shopping and great fish tacos. Hookup and non-hookup sites are available, but a reservation would be necessary to get a site with hookups.

Desert Oasis

The big story here is the full blown resort, a true oasis in the desert of Death Valley, with every service you could possibly need. The RV park is very small, tucked obscurely in the back, but does have full hook-ups. It’s crowded and seemed to be mostly used by employees. It could be hard to get into so check ahead of time.

Great Winter Escape

This is a primitive campground, but its proximity to the Visitor Center next door and the adjoining Furnace Creek Ranch Resort; make it seem like a more deluxe campground. We enjoyed the free access to both and great hiking in the greater Death Valley area.

Centrally Located

Centrally located in the Willamette Valley between Salem, the state capitol, and the famous Oregon Coast, this is an economical and easy stay. Fairgrounds include Polk County Museum and Nesmith Pioneer Park. Restaurant next door, Eola Hills Wine Cellars across the highway. Space never a problem unless there is an event going on.

Base of Operations

This huge regional park is conveniently located between San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay. It was once a military training base, but today could serve as your own personal base of operations for recreation and exploration. The campground is a quiet oasis in the midst of a golf course, botanical gardens, hiking trails, and a large day-use area. We enjoyed birding and hiking right from our site.
