Very enjoyable stay!

We absolutely loved our stay at this park.. there's a variety of sites that should meet just about every need.

Not only is the location just fantastic (right on the beach, next to the cruise terminal). The attention to details here is a class act - fire extinguishers placed throughout, variety of sites with amenities (rustic to full hook-ups), nice sized sites, free popcorn in the lobby, friendly staff, clean laundry facilities, easy guess passes and likely the most well designed dump station ever.

We enjoyed the easy walk to the beach and the jetty pier, and watching ships come and go from the inlet.

We were given site #134, which was huge. Walking around, there was such a variety of sites - and the whole park had a nice neighborhood feel to it.

On the negative side, we could not get their WiFi to work at all during our stay - but thankfully we had good Verizon and AT&T signal. Also, their website could seriously use some improvement - such as posting of rates, rules and expectations.

We would definitely not hesitate to return in the future, and wish we could stay longer.

Perfect... as always!

We've stayed at this park on multiple occasions, and it's always a favorite!

Most of the sites feel quite private surrounded by the Florida hammocks. It's amazing that you're so close to town (you can walk right into surrounding neighborhoods), but yet you feel so out in nature.

It's an easy walk to the beach, and there is onsite rentals of sail boats and kayaks. There's even a beach grill and campstore. You're only a quick drive into the touristy part of St. Augustine, and the lighthouse is visible from the beach overlooks.

Our electric outlet blew a breaker when we plugged into it.. and once we reported it, we had 3 rangers show right up to fix it (even before we could get back to our site!). Excellent and friendly customer service!

As always, we leave feeling like we should have booked a longer stay!

Our Verizon and AT&T devices all received happy 3G signals.

Great Promise - But Falling Short

We were moving between Atlanta and Savannah, and just needed an overnight with sewer hook-ups to dump and fill the tanks. This was a perfect spot in-between, especially with a Passport America rate.

The park itself holds a lot of promise. The owners are apparently somewhat new to the location, and we love what they seem to be in process of doing.

We loved that there was ample space between the sites, and most had nice overlook views. And the saltwater pool was very refreshing. There is a spa, but it wasn't working on our visit.

The campground was relatively empty on our visit, and were given our choice of spots. We at first tried their three pull thrus by the bathhouse so we wouldn't have to unhitch, but the approach to them is really not easy. It's way too tight of a turn, especially considering the resident parked across the street from them has a trailer parked right up the road. We're only a 35' coach (and quite experienced driving it), and had trouble making the tight turn. Suggestion to management: Move the wood beams marking the spots further back to allow more swing space.

Once we were into the slot however, we realized that the sewer connection is UPHILL of the spot. That's just not going to cut it.

So we switched to the pull thru spot further down the hill, which the owner had told us is difficult to get level on. It was a bit unlevel, but a couple pieces of wood under the rear tire was able to fix that.

It looks like the management is in process of moving out some older long term residents. One area of the park definitely has some very old RVs that are decaying right on site - they're really quite sad looking, and bring down the feel of the park.

Once this place is cleaned up, it'll be a great location. Their back in sites really do hold a lot of promise of being an ideal location.

Oh, and a warning to Passport America members - the rates published in PA were $17.50, but when we arrived it had gone up to $20. And they accept cash only for PA - which was not disclosed in their listing.

Lovely Place for a Rally!

We attended a bus conversion rally here, and were pleasantly surprised by this park. When we reserved our spot, we asked for as scenic as was possible. Much to our delight, they assigned us a back-in spot along a pond and we had a huge shaded 'back yard' right along the water. It was lovely, and a perfect location for hosting friends for evening cocktails.

Most of the other attendees were a bit envious however, as they opted for a 50A site, which are back-to-back sites that are much less spacious and less private feeling. Another score for optimizing our coach for 30A service.

The campground itself seemed kept up to date. They had a nice laundry facility, a great little camp store with a grill and ice cream.

There's also a nice pool.. but even more fun, was the swimming hole in the old quarry. It's tremendously deep with fresh cool spring water. We enjoyed our afternoon cool off swims.

The weekend did start to get a bit more packed in with families enjoying the location. But we'd definitely consider returning here with or without a rally, we enjoyed our visit. It did seem a bit pricey however, even at our discounted rally rate.

However, we could not get their WiFi to work reliably, and the Verizon signal was almost unusable even boosted. Thankfully, AT&T 3G worked solidly enough to stream!

Great View and Trails

We stopped in here as we wanted a waterfront view for the evening. The friendly staff was able to get us a great site with a great view.

There is a selection of back in sites and pull thrus, and all seemed to have ample space around them. There is however no shade at any of the sites.

The views of Lake Erie are gorgeous, and the beach in front of the campground quite nice. Not sure we'd swim there tho, the water had an interesting green glow to it! The park is surrounded by power plans on both sides giving it an interesting industrial feel.

We did set off for a walk around the park, the paths here are quite great! We managed a 7 mile walk. The loop around the lagoon quite pretty, even with an overlook tower.

Overall, a perfect stop for the evening - and we had usable AT&T and Verizon 3G signal.

Packed in, no views from campsite

On a map, this campground looks ideal - right along the shores of Lake Michigan! But we were highly disappointed when we pulled in after a long days drive.

The campground is a big long loop of multiple lanes of very tightly packed in sites with little distinction between them. Most of them are back-to-back, giving little sense of privacy.

And aside from a handful of sites at the very end that peak over the bluffs, none of a water view. The campground itself is pretty mundane. But it's history is pretty interesting, it did used to be an apple orchard and was turned into a travel park in the 1920s and 30s by the state.

The electric pedestal at our site was very far away - on the other side of our neighbors site. We were unable to reach it, but yet were charged for an electric site anyway. Disappointing.

The beauty to this park is the beachfront below the bluffs, and there's a huge staircase leading down to it.

Our Verizon and AT&T signals were both intermittent. It was an ok stop for a night, but not our ideal sort of location.

Beautiful waterfront sites!

We pulled in while passing through just to see what was available. We were able to snag a waterfront spot with a fabulous view of Mackinac Bridge. The spot was huge, with a shaded area for the picnic table. And there is fairly easy beach access.

Some of the non-waterfront sites were ok, and some seemed quite small. If a waterfront hadn't been available we probably would have moved on.

There's a grocery store within walking distance, which is quite nice. The walk into town is a good 2-3 miles.

We had great reception on both Verizon and AT&T, and would definitely return here in the future.

All depends on the spot you get...

After deciding we wanted to stick around Sault Ste Marie for a few more days, we found availability at this campground in one of their canal front spots.

Prior to this we had stayed at the Aune Osborn city park down the road, but they were unable to get us in over the weekend. So we were thrilled to find a spot here.

It is a fairly nice park, and the staff friendly. It's seems moderately well maintained and is also waterfront like the city park. However unlike the city park, the spots here can be pretty close quarters.

The waterfront ones are quite nice however, and worth it if you can snag one. The canal ones are small, but still give you a nice view. And some of the overlook spots up the hill give a nice view too. In the middle of the park are several oversized parking spaces on asphalt that looked pretty miserable and tight.

This park, unlike the city run one, does allow motorhomes to pull in forward to optimize views. Which does mean that you could end up 'awning-to-awning' with your neighbor. We ended up with really nice neighbors so this worked out well.

The WiFi here was temperamental - we had to have the owner come down and reboot the router to get it working again. And cellular signal here was quite degraded, at least at the bottom of the campground. We had difficulty keeping our Verizon MiFi online. Also, we were unable to pick up any US TV stations, just Canadian.

We did enjoy the location, as it's a nice 1.5 mile walk into town - which makes for a nice evening stroll.

All and all, an enjoyable stop. We had a relaxing time and would return again if the city park was unable to accommodate us. Just be careful in the site you select - some are nice, and some are rather crammed in.

Kick back and watch ships go by!

On a last minute decision to head to Sault Ste Marie, we decided to give this location our first shot for finding a last minute space. When we pulled up on a Monday early afternoon, it looked pretty full. But the very helpful reservation agent at the desk pointed us to several spots available for the night that had decent waterviews.

We selected one, and really enjoyed the location and our evening there. A great location for taking a Soo Locks boat tour too - it's just a short walk down the road to Dock 1.

The open areas of the park really help make this is a pleasant experience. Even if you don't score a waterfront site, you still have access to the shoreline to watch barges come and go.

The park is nicely laid out, with care taken to maximize the views. The staff seems really well versed in which sites are best for trailers & 5th wheels and which for motorhomes. They are very strict on their 'back in only' rule - apparently there was once a big fist fight between neighbors fighting over who's yard was whose when someone pulled in forward to get a better view, causing an awning-to-awning situation.

So do be sure to request a site where you'll get the best view while backed in!!

The next morning we checked in to see if there was a waterfront site, and they were able to get us a stellar one with a panoramic view. Fantastic!

The WiFi was strong and fast throughout the park, and Verizon & AT&T both had great 3G signals. The electric & water hook-ups are shared between sites at the rear, so you may end up needing a longer hose/cord than otherwise to reach.

Truly Beautiful

We made a last minute decision to head to Tahquamenon Falls on a Sunday afternoon while we were roaming around the UP. Knowing it was a popular destination, we called the state park reservation line and got a very friendly and helpful agent who was able to snag us the last reservable spot available for the night in the Lower Falls campground.

There are actually two campgrounds within the park - one at the Rivermouth with 72 sites, and another at the Lower falls with two sections for a total of 188 sites. When we told our agent we wanted the most scenic location, she got us a site in the Lower Falls campground, and ended up in a nice huge shaded spot on the Riverbend section.

The campground itself is very pleasant - Michigan seems to have it down. The loops are well designed, the sites spacious and the facilities top notch. Some of the sites in our section were waterfront.

There are a lot of trails right from the campground, and they're beautiful. An easy one right to the lower falls, with a concession stand, boat rental and easy to get to overlooks of the falls. Really well done, and reminded us more of a national park than a state one.

We noticed there was a 4 mile hike up to the upper falls, and almost took it before we noticed the signs for a shuttle service ($12pp, or $15 for a couple) that will take you between the two. We instead opted to take the shuttle up to the Upper Falls and then hike the 4 miles back down to camp.

Once we got to the Upper Falls.. there was a BREWERY! A brewery, in a state park! Ok.. that's pretty darn cool. We grabbed a brew, then walked up and down the staircases to view the upper falls. And then off we set for our 4 mile hike along the river back to our campground. It was a beautiful rustic trail with lots of ascensions to and from the waterfront. Lovely.

We had a boostable and slow Verizon connection at the campground, and absolutely no AT&T signal.

The rate is our nightly rate, without the $8 reservation fee or the passport fee ($8/day or a $29 annual pass).
