Spring tornado Missed us

This is a big rig friendly place for what appears to be in and out travelers. When we stopped here on our way north, there were tornados that did major damage in Mississippi but they missed us by about 15 miles. We did get a lot of rain but basically our stay was fine. Friendly managers and well kept facilities.

2 nights at Marion, IL

This is a nice and convenient location. Road into park was a bit hard to get to because of some construction, but that should be done now. Nice and clean facility with friendly staff. Sites are nice size and pretty easy to get in and out of. Appears to be a short term stay for most but there were a few sites that appeared to be there for a while.

Two nights at Caboose Lake

We stayed at Caboose Lake in early May, 2010 on our way back to MI from being in Gulf Shores, AL for the winter. This is a site we have stayed in previously. It is one of a few that is open year round. It is reasonable nice with gravel roads and parking pads. Some upgrades and new sites have been added. Nice lake and many activities. Our site was along a row of sites next to Hwy 65 which runs right along this row and about 50 feet up a large bank. This made for a LOT of road noise and a bit of difficulty sleeping.

Observations from visit to Hidden Ridge

I have not stayed here but have visited it to decide if I wanted to stay here. All impressions gained on the visit are that this is probably one of the very best RV sites in Michigan. Facilities and grounds are new and first class. Staff I tslkrd to were very friendly and helpful. My reason for visiting was that I was going full-time in the RV and wanted to explore seasonal/summer stay options in the Kalamazoo, MI area. Ultimately I did not stay here because of the price.

Short stay at Sun Runners

Had a short stay at Sun Runners RV Park in Dec 2007. On our way south my wife had a blood clot in her right leg, resulting in amputation below the knee. This is a decent campgrounds. Nicely shaded sites with good spacing but sites are all on the grass/sand. Knowing that my wife would be in a wheelchair I did not feel that this sand/grass would be workable for me. I moved to another campground that had paved roads, cement pads with patios and it was a new facility. Sun runners is well maintained and the manager was very kind and camper friendly.

Hickory Hollow in first snow

Requires a few miles on rolling hills with lots of bends. VERY nice scenery in the fall. Stayed there in late Sept. 2009. It snowed and got quite cold overnight but it sure was pretty in the morning with the first snow. Relatively new campground with nice facilities and beautiful scenery. Some long term stay units in a seperate section of the campgrounds.

Stayed here in its opening year

This is a new RV Resort where we stayed in Dec 2007 to May 2008. It has wide paved roads, pull through and back-in sites which all have cement parking pads with large patios. Laundry, restrooms and activity hall are all new, cleaned and well maintained. Owners & campers were all friendly and helpful to us which was important to us as my wife had her right leg amputated on Christmas eve, 2007. They made our stay and her recovery more pleasurable.

Great Snowbird Camping

We stayed here in Jan -March, 2009. This place had undergone severe damage in hurricanes but the rebuilding has resulted in a great park. Large sites are paved and most have good privacy. Lakeside sites are a bit more expensive, but worth it. Storm damage has resulted in construction of new laundry, activities center, pool and recreation areas which should now be completed. DO NOT FEED THE ALLIGATORS! Yes they have alligators as well as eagles. Keep an eye on your smaller pets.

Gulf Breeze Winter site

We have stayed here for two winters now. It is a very popular spot for snowbirds. Paved roads lead to sites with good spacing. All sites have concrete paved parking and patio sites. Reservations are usually required almost a year in advance. Specific sites are not held but if a reseservation is accepted, you will get a good site. Most sites have some trees of shrubery but still have good satellite access, as well. Fishing and paddle wheel lake on-site. Three laundry and shower facilities, indoor and outdoor pools, game rooms, library and activity buildings are all well maintained. Rental cabins also available.

Bay Breeze RV On The Bay

This is an older RV Park and about 8 miles out from Gulf Shores on Mobile Bay. Campsites are generally level and sand with cement patio areas. One side has good shade the other is shaded in late afternoon. All sites have a great veiw of Mobile Bay. When winds are from the north, this can be a very windy and cool location in the winter months. There are also three rental RV's and a rental cottage. This is a very quiet area with great beach. Laundry and showers are clean and well maintained. Many golfing opportunities within just a few miles. Park manager s are very friendly and helpful.
