Stupid Expensive

We stayed at this park 2010 because it was the closest RV Park to Bloomington IN. The site was gravel, uneven and cramped. There are a lot of yearly sites and it looks like quite a party goes on during the summer months. People have built out door cabannas, bars, storage sheds and boat covers.
There is nothing about this park other than close proximity to Lake Monroe and Bloomington that make the rates worth the stay. I just checked for this year and it'll cost $45.00 for w/s/e for just 2 people..add another and its $10.00 more per person. Ridicules!

A true gem on the Forgotton Coast

This is a beautiful rustic state park on the “forgotten coast” in the northern panhandle of Florida. The campground is well maintained with two bath houses. Most of the sites are very deep and spacious, especially the gulf side. They do have pads for handicapped but the majority is just sand with water and electric hook ups, no sewer.
They do not have a camp store or washer-dryer, but you can rent kayaks at the entrance station or purchase a tee-shirt. They have a few nature trails for the hikers in the crowd and even a primitive campground at the Eastern tip of the island.
AT&T cell service is spotty at best and Verizon seems to have better coverage, hence I am able to upload this review using our Verizon My-Fi. However, it is slow, slow, slow so I only check email once a day.
If you are looking for something other than a tranquil beaches or fishing, then this isn’t the park for you. It is at the Eastern end of St. George Island and IS NOT like Top Sail, Grayton Beach or St Andrews. It’s a slow pace, languid park destination in a low key section of Florida. Apalachicola is about 20 miles away and we really enjoy snooping around the interesting stores and picking up fresh shrimp and oysters.
All in all, this is one of my favorite panhandle state parks and one worth checking out.

Good Overnighter

We found this park to be easy to access off of I-65. Rates are reasonable, especially with a Good Sam discount and the staff is courteous. They give you a key for the rest room for security and each site is a level pull through.
AT&T has full bars and The Woods WiFi is strong and free.
We travel between Tennessee and Florida quite a bit and this is one handy campground!
I nicked one star off my rating because it is not a very secure park so treat it like you would boondocking at a walmart.

Outdoor Recreation Park

Point Mallard is on the banks of the Tennessee River. The campground is close but not on the banks. This park if a full blown recreational facility with a water park, light ball fields, 18 hole golf course, batting cages, ice rink etc and is heavily trafficed by the locals. The rec. facilities are all within walking distance of the CG and you'll hear a fair bit of noise from the rec area. The CG is mostly shaded, gravel sites with a nice bath house. This is not a rustic park or one you'd want to go to if you want to "get back to nature". The bike trail was nice and followed along the banks of the river/lake. The CG was easy to negotiate but camp sites tend to be pretty snug next to your neighbors. We stayed there for a couple of weeks as a base camp due to having business in Decatur and not there for the recreational activities.
If you are looking for a recreational park this one could be a 5 star for you. I'm giving it 2 since its not the kind of park I would seek out.

Leafy and Green

This state park is just 15 miles NW of Bloomington Indiana. It’s a scenic, leafy park deep in the hardwoods of the region and the CG is heavily wooded as well. The roads are good and the CG is easily accessible. Sites are mostly back in, level, and gravel with electric. Note, there are no water hook ups per site, just spigots throughout the CG. The other minor downside is campfire smoke tends to linger in the CG. I suspect due to the heavy woods and topographic location. Bathhouses are kept clean and sites are reserve-able. Verizon and AT&T signal strength is good.
Fees vary by the day of the week.

Great View at the Great Outdoors!

The park is elevated in the foothills above the valley and US 441 and has a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. There are many good things to say about this park besides the grand view and many amenities for both individual campers and groups. Exceptionally clean grounds, nice landscape, level but gravel sites. Nice office with supplies inside, bbq grill available with tables/chairs and rockers outside. It has a small gym, and a nice size meeting room for those group occasions. Staff is friendly and there are some restrictions and extra fees for extra people etc. AT&T and Verizon available.
Some of the CG’s in the area are tight and not really suitable for the larger rigs, but this one has none of that. It features easy access from 441 with plenty of negotiating room and just 4 or 5 miles outside of Franklin. Good Sam member.

Smoky Mountain Hideaway Campground

We use Mama Gerties as a stopover between the Eastern seaboard and our home in middle Tennessee. It’s located about 12 miles from Asheville NC which would make an ideal “home base” while visiting the area. It is a very clean park with friendly staff and all the sites are level but, that is the only thing level with this campground. It’s built on a slope up in the mountains and from I-40 it’s up hill all the way. I would not recommend this park for someone with disabilities.
The air is cool and fresh, little need for AC, and it has fire rings to sit around in the cool evenings. It’s nestled in typical Smoky mountain foliage of hardwood trees and rhododendrons. I imagine this would be a spectacular park to stay at for the fall colors! The office/bathhouse/laundry building at the entrance also has a nice covered porch with Adirondack chairs and a lovely mountain view. This is a 5 star park with a 3 star location (steep grade) so I’ve given it 4 stars.
Full hookup 50 amp $40.00
Full hookup 30 amp $35.00
Water/Electric/cable $30.00
Tent and cabins also available.

Perfect!

Relatively cozy campground with just one main road and a small loop. It’s located on a narrow piece of property edged between Hwy 12 and the Atlantic Ocean. There are some shady sites mid way in the CG but the closer you get to the beach, the more open the site. Nice clean bathhouses (though tight) swimming pool, wash house, camp store and WIFI. The owners are very friendly and the CG has a relaxed air about it. Each site has a 2,000 sq. foot level concrete pad. And to get to the beach you simply walk through the dunes and there you are! I highly recommend this campground over others in the Rodanthe, Waves area of OBX. It is less expensive, good beach access, smaller, and every site has more space than the two other mega campgrounds up the road. Plan ahead, this one stays booked! Ocean Waves has 68 sites, 62 are full hook up.

Willow Grove CG on Dale Hollow Lake

If you are looking for a true white knuckle driving adventure, drive to this out of the way campground! You’ll travel through hills and dales and have to negotiate a few blind hair pin turns on a narrow winding road with no shoulders and few guard rails. Once you arrive, have a cold one and take in the scenery of the Cumberland Plateau on the Tennessee, Kentucky border. Beautiful! Dale Hollow lake is deep and very clear. You’ll likely see scuba divers along with the boaters.
The campground is very hilly but has level graveled pads. Not a choice biking area. The sites all sit up above the lake line but the views are very nice. Clean bathhouses. This CG is near a large marina which with well stocked provisions and fishing supplies. They also rent pontoon and fishing boats. I do not recall if there is cell phone coverage or not.

Scenic Campground

Defeated Creek is an Army Corps campground located on Cordell Hull Lake near Carthage TN. This CG is on the scenic Cumberland Plateau nestled in lush hills on a deep water lake. The CG is relatively level and primarily open with a dabbling of shade trees throughout the park. The sites are spacious so you never feel like you are sitting at your neighbors S‘more party. Quite a few are full hook up and most are level with many lake front sites and all but a couple of dozen have lake view. This is a quiet, well maintained campground about an hour’s drive from Nashville. There are two boat ramps and a marina with fishing supplies etc. including jet skis pontoon and fishing boat rentals. There is a restaurant next door and a stage where they occasionally feature music on summer weekends.
The CG is somewhat remote so does not have a lot of area activities but is a great campground for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surrounding scenery.
