Rude Service by Owner

Stayed 1 night (only choice in the area), May 10, 2014. I am a VIP rewards member. The owner said my VIP card had expired and he would not honor the discount. Not a big deal to me. However, he quickly got agitated when I said that KOA automatically renewed by card as I was a VIP member. "No, your card has expired. I am the owner. I don't care what KOA says".

Very, very poor customer service. Further, we would not recommend this location. It is located in the worst part of town and the only restaurant within walking distance was extremely marginal. Stay in Deming or Benson, depending on which direction you are going. Far better choices.

Terrible

While this park is the closest to Durango it leaves much to be desired. The layout is terrible. You directly face your neighbors next to you. It's like having adjoining hotel rooms with strangers. When you have traveled all day and want to spend a few relaxing days sitting out in this nice area, the last thing you want is to have strangers in your face 5 ft. away. It seems too that the staff makes an effort to "group" units together even when the have the option to spread units out.
The staff was gruff and quickly pointed out the rules/regs. "Barney" the maintenance man was always roaming the grounds rudely enforcing the rules. Not a repeat for us. If you are planning to spend a few days in Durango and want just a "little" privacy, you will want to go elsewhere. The fact that the train runs through the park is no biggie and no reason to locate here. Finally, the bathroom/shower facilities were far below the needed capacity for a park with this many spaces and getting through the lock mechanism was challenging for all. They need to invest an update this facility....expanded bathrooms and get rid of the terrible face to face layout.
