Space Center Museum SP

Excellent location

Adjacent to the Space and Rocket Center and easily accessible off the main highway but without most of the highway noise. This is a small family-owned and operated campground that could use some updating but still very affordable and in a great location. The sites are gravel pads that will require leveling for most. All sites are full-hookup, shade is available for many. Pull-thru and back-in sites are available.

There is no wifi here. All major network channels are available using the rooftop antenna, and many locations will have a clear sky for using a satellite antenna.

We stayed here 2 nights while visiting Huntsville and the Space Center, we would return and visit again. The rate is very affordable and you can't beat the location.

Hermann RV & Trailer Park

Convenient not quiet

Stayed here during the fall Oktoberfest weekend. Super convenient to everything Hermann has to offer and walking distance to all if you are able. This is a city park that totally transforms into a campground over the weekend celebration including lots of tents. It is located along a busy state highway so there is plenty of noise during morning, afternoon, and evening hours; during the overnight hours the road noise calms down considerably. Also with the location being a city park and centrally located there is quite a bit of drive-thru traffic and anyone can come thru the campground at any hour of the day as they please.

The sites are mostly level, gravel with grassy areas alongside. Very narrow and tight access roads but enough space for any size rig to get around. Your neighboring RV will also be very close alongside. Most sites have a picnic table and a fire ring. There is no cable tv and we could not receive any broadcast channels using the rooftop antenna; satellite reception worked well at our site and likely most but not all sites. There is no wifi service but strong cellular reception. Most of the sites are full hook-up and will require some leveling; some are electric and water service only, others are electric only.

The Stone Hill winery is very close by, about a 5 minute walk just up the hill behind the city park. The other locations in Hermann are scattered around the downtown area and just under a one mile walk which is doable for most; if you choose to drive downtown there is plenty of parking but still walking will be necessary between locations. Several wineries outside of the city held their own activities; these range from 5-10 miles distant so driving would be necessary.

We stayed here 4 nights in our travel trailer and would visit again. The city does not accept credit cards, we made our payment using a personal check.

Great hiking in a beatiful setting

The 4 campground areas are very large, about 125 sites in total. We stayed in Loop A which offered a full hookup site. The Loop A sites are all paved asphalt with picnic table and fire ring. Some leveling will be required at nearly every site. We needed a sewer extension at our site so be prepared if needed for sewer and/or water. There are a few sites here where satellite reception works well, ask for some suggestions when making your reservation. There is no cable service but all network channels were available using the rooftop antenna. The channels are broadcast from the LIttle Rock area and can fade somewhat during bad weather or late evening hours. There is no wifi service in the campground but complimentary wifi is available in the Mather Lodge lobby area. Cellular service was very good in the campground but not so much on the hiking trails.

The hiking here is excellent as long as you are doing so during a cooler spring/fall time of year. Over 20 miles of trails, some short, some long, some easy, some difficult - something for all. The visitor's center or Mather Lodge can provide a map and overview of each of the trails, it was very helpful in not only planning the hikes but also while hiking. While the Cedar Falls trail has a beautiful waterfall and should not be missed it can be crowded especially on weekends. If you are able to set time aside for a longer hike such as the Seven Hollows Trail it will be much less crowded (you may be alone!) and offer plenty of interesting scenery and unusual rock formations.

A few previous reviews mentioned the spectacular mountain views and there are several. The best is about 4 miles east of the park near the gravesite for Petit Jean. Take a short drive and be rewarded.

We stayed here 5 nights in a travel trailer and would stay again, although the nightly rate for a full hookup site that does not include cable tv and wifi is high.

Cape Camping & RV Park

Better than most

Very nice location, right off Kingshighway but without most of the highway noise. The park and all sites are very level and all are full hookup pull-thru sites. Individual sites are pretty close together and access is tight getting into the sites, however the access roads are very spacious. There are no trees here so plan accordingly. There is a very nice network of walking trails that are accessible from the rear of the park. Also a handful of restaurants are within walking distance.

Satellite reception is excellent at all sites. The park offers cable tv, you can also receive all network stations with an over-the-air rooftop antenna. Wifi worked well throughout the park although tended to slow down during peak hours.

The park has recently raised their rates to $40 per night which is getting expensive for the amenities offered. We stayed here 3 nights in a travel trailer and would stay again; however we might check other parks in the immediate area the next time passing thru.

Osage Beach RV Park

Past its' prime

A terrific location close to many lake activities but disappointing on other levels. The sites are quite unlevel in many places, and extremely close together. These are all gravel sites that become quite muddy if there is any rain. Our site was quite flooded and muddy near our entrance door; my advice to the owners....take some of the money that you are making on reservations and invest in spreading out some additional gravel throughout the entire RV Park.

Many sites offer shade while others are full sun. The grass was not kept cut to an acceptable level; after it was cut on our last day at the park very little trimming was done so that high grass and weeds were still remaining throughout most of the park. This might seem petty to some but with summertime high temperatures and humid conditions, numerous bugs are inevitable in the park. The bathrooms were kept very clean and the laundry has plenty of machines with very competitive rates. In the rear of the park there are numerous seasonal sites; not really a problem because most are well kept.

There are some sites where satellite reception can be used. No rooftop antenna channels were available but the park offers cable tv; however it's a very limited channel lineup of about 25 channels and does not match the channel lineup posted on their website. When there is rain it will not be watchable because the channels come from the RV park's satellite antenna. The wifi service is not only limited to mostly the office area and very slow, but the park restricts access to only one device per site.

We stayed here in a travel trailer for 5 nights. We would not stay here again with so many other RV park options in the lake area with many of those being newer parks with improved amenities and infrastructure.

Great State Park

Just a few things to add to the previous well-written reviews, all sites are mostly level and very well shaded. Electric only, there is no water or sewer at the sites. Several water taps are available upon entering the campground, and there are 2 sewer dump sites at the station. There is no wifi in the park itself but wifi is available at the Visitor's Center for the National Seashore just a few miles south.

The park is heavily visited by locals who tended to leave early afternoon, sometimes creating a waiting line at the dump station. For a morning departure the dump station seemed to be open most times.

The park regulations state that no alcohol is allowed within the boundaries of the park. If you practice discretion at your site only and preferably inside of your RV during evening hours it should not be any problem enjoying your favorite beverage.

Take some time to hike the trails. There are several options available from easy short hikes with plenty of shade to much longer strenuous hikes up to 7 miles in length, as well as many options in between. And if you're feeling adventurous hike to the top of one of the 3 talles sand dunes; you'll be rewarded with a terrific view of Lake Michigan.

Take some time to explore the immediate area beyond the State Park that belongs to the National Seashore. There are several interesting historical locations within just a few miles.

Hidden Ridge RV Community

Resort living

A first class RV resort with every possible amenity available, especialy for the kids. This place is really big and spread out, golf carts are available for rent to assist with getting around. Sites are all paved, mostly level, there are no trees. Cable tv hookup is provided, satellite antenna will work at just about every site. Wifi worked well most times. The park is convenient to attractions nearby including the cities of Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Holland, and the Lake Michigan shoreline parks. Very quite overnight, there is a highway nearby but the park is far enough away that we didn't hear any highway noise.

Several activities are ongoing on a daily and weekly basis, visitors can participate as much or as little as they like. Many activities are focused on kids and with our visit during the summer season there were a lot of kids in the park. The park has quite a few rules including guidelines that restrict the age and type of RV; no tents are allowed.

It's expensive to stay here; the daily rate listed below reflects the rack rate for a 30 amp back-in site. Good Sam discount is available, as well as a first time visitor discount. We stayed here 4 nights in a travel trailer and would visit again.

Good for overnight

Just about 2 miles off I-55, and conveniently located near many historical sites. Many of the sites are on grass and some leveling will be required at just about all of them. All major networks available over the air, and satellite worked well at our site but many sites do have trees for shade.

No frills and quite affordable, it's good for an overnight stop but I would not want to stay several days here.

Quiet and spacious

This is one of many campgrounds on Beaver Lake and also one of the largest with over 170 campsites. It's within 15 minutes drive of nearby Rogers, a sizable town with plenty of shopping and restaurants to offer. The lake itself is very large; this campground offers several lakeside sites and a boat launch.

All sites have electricity and water; there is no on-site sewer service but 2 different dump stations are available. We occupied site #74 which seemed to be located in a newer campground loop than others. This campground loop offers mostly lakeview sites with a handful of lakeside sites, generous space between the fully paved sites with some trees nearby offering shade. All sites had a covered picnic table with fire ring. There is no cable tv but all the major networks are available using the rooftop antenna. Satellite reception worked great and would probably work well at any site in this loop. There is no campground wifi but cellular reception was very strong.

There is a very nice playground here for the kids, and lots of ashphalt paved roads for walking or bicycle riding. Deer can be seen on a daily basis, especially during morning and evening hours. This area had a major flood event this spring and the lake level is still very high. Some campsites remain closed and some areas of shoreline are badly lined with downed trees and limbs awaiting cleanup. Nonetheless this is a very quiet and relaxing campground to spend a weekend or several days. We stayed here 3 nights in a travel trailer and would visit again.

Woolly Hollow State Park

Quiet and Relaxing

A really nice, quiet state park located about 50 miles north of the Little Rock metro area. All sites are full hookup, mostly level but some side to side leveling is probably needed, all have asphalt paved pads. Generous space between sites. Around some of the sites could use more grass, there was quite a bit of rain while we were here and it left dirty, muddy residue in many spots on our particular pad and our hoses and electrical cord.

The lake is small but also very quiet and safe, trolling motors are the only motorized means of power that is allowed. The rangers office can rent canoes and kayaks by the hour or half-day. Small swimming beach with lifeguard on duty during the summer months. There is a small fee to swim during this time. Nice fishing pier but bank fishing is readily available and very popular.

Take some time to hike the Huckleberry Trail; there is also a mountain bike trail about 9 miles in length. If you aren't biking it can still be hiked in sections. Also the original Woolly Cabin is interesting to visit.

Received several channels via the over-the-air antenna including all of the major networks. Some sites can support satellite reception, most do not. There is now wifi available near the check-in station and gift shop.

We enjoyed our visit over 4 nights in our travel trailer and would return.
