J five is the best We stop for a week. But stayed 6 weeks.
We rented a lot at J-Five RV Park last winter while visiting from Kansas, and I would recommend HIGHLY against staying at this facility. The park was filthy, the shuffleboard area was very worn out, and there was a constant police presence due to the high number of vehicle thefts in the park (which I later found were attributed to a heavy gang presence in the area). In addition, the garbage recepticles were at least 200 yards from our trailer, and, with my recent knee surgery, it was more than I could take. The quiet, country-living setting advertised on the website could not be further from the truth, as there was a beligerent, alcoholic man living in the lot next door. Despite numerous complaints, that situation was also never resolved. Additionally, the "scenic" fields located near our living space smelled to high Heaven due to the large number of grazing cattle. We have, however, found a much more serene environment in Donna, TX at a park called "Koenig's Winter Resort." (956)464-8000 Do yourself a favor, and enjoy beautiful South Texas from another vantage point far away from Mission, TX.
We had heard about 'the valley' for a couple years, and I guess we were expecting more than we got!
We are parked in a very tight spot, but then all the sites (except 'premium') are tight. Outside our front door is a sand patch - which in this humidity means tracked into the house every time we go out - and our fur kid also brings in sand AND SAND SPURS! So not nice!
For $195 for a WEEK with NO WIFI and NO cable, we feel pretty ripped off. Obviously they cater to the folks that stay here for 4 or more months every year. The park is comprised of 85% Canadians - not a bad thing really, but unexpected to us. Especially surprising is that many can't speak enough English to be understood! I thought we would have an issue with Spanish...not French!
No pet park - there is a pet 'walk' but no place to let the dogs off leash to play :( Also, ONE garbage area in a park with 338 spots??? What is up with that, and you can't drive to it, unless you have a golf cart, so you have to haul your trash about a block from the clubhouse parking lot to get rid of it!
The grounds and spaces are very well maintained. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The power, water are new and easy to use. Limited full hookup sites, but they offer a service to drain your grey water every day for $5 per day.
Each campsite comes with a nice picnic table. The other reviewer was correct, there are no wood burning campfires allowed, however, they do allow propane fire pits AND they will rent you a propane fire pit ($10/day) and a propane tank ($5/day) so that you don?t miss out on a campfire.
The pool is VERY nice and the store has all the essentials plus some neat local items at fairly reasonable prices. There is a 24 hour supermarket/ ACE Hardware one exit north if you need anything. They also offer a shuttle service to Silverwood Amusement Park.
There is a pet area and a children?s play area for the little ones. VERY family friendly!
I would highly recommend Ravenwood RV Resort if you are in the area.
Arrived for our weekend only to find out no wood burning campfires allowed which was not specified on their website.
Campground is on the edge of town and perfect for ATV's. Direct access to trails from campground. Laundry and small store prices were reasonable. Good cell phone reception. Sites are okay. Owners are nice.
