“Pretty dicey place” for Great River Road Campground
Tha park was flooded in 2008; half of the electrical connections are inoperable. Concrete pads and paved roads. Lots of tall trees so fully shaded in summer. Park is right on the Mississippi; you can watch barges go by from the river's edge. 18-hole disc gold course. Park is gated with a password so you need to call ahead (662-759-6762) to get in after 4 PM (at least in March). Restrooms are nice but poorly maintained. We assume the parks have fallen through the financial cracks. Rated 1 star because of electrical problems and poor maintenance.

0 out of 1 people found this review helpfulThis park is right next to New Orleans East RV Park. However, it is larger nad has a lot of permanent reisdents so it is more trailer parkish. The pads we tried were all concrete, but weren't level so we checked out the park next door and stayed there.

1 out of 1 people found this review helpfulThere are 2 RV parks just off I10 at exit 263 in Slidell and they are pretty similar. I think which one you go to depends on whether you have a Good Sam membership or not. NO East has paved roads, but the sites are gravel with tiny islands of grass or mud in between. The turns are a bit tight and I wouldn't want to drive around here in a big rig. It also has a few cabins for rent with kitchenette and bath, bigger than the ones you see at KOA. The laundry is near the entrance and has 5 washers and 5 dryers. The bathhouse has 3 very nice showers with real doors and lots of hooks. It has murals on the walls and is very nice. Wifi was good. They do a free shuttle to New Orleans; the French Quarter is about 30 mi away.

0 out of 1 people found this review helpfulThis large city park is right on Lake Palourde. Sites are scattered with lots of grass area between sets of sites. Sites 63 to 74 are on the levee overlooking the marina and are great for boat and people watching; sites 52 to 62 re just behind the lievee. Sites 43 to 51 are along a canal. Sites 108 to 131 overlook the lake as well. An additional 52 sites were added after the last bad storm, but they are right next to the road and there is a lot of road noise.
We are told it is very busy on weekends. You can stay for a month in Jan, Feb, & March. There are only 3 showers in each restroom (there is another 1 over in the tenting area). The showers are nicely tiled but there is no place to put your clothes.
Don't rely on your GPS to find it; ours said we had 7 more miles to go when we got to the park.Date of Stay: March, 2010Rate Paid: $28.00“Right on the ocean” for Grand Isle State Park
0 out of 2 people found this review helpfulThe sites are all pull thrus, all on the other side of a manmade dune facing the Gulf of Mexico. The beach is being rebuilt by the Corps of Engineers and is officially closed but you can walk on it and fish from the pier and enjoy the ocean. Tbere isn't much tidal change (1' between high and low), and there isn't any shade (only recently planted palm trees), but it's lovely. Sites 4, 8 30, and 13 are particularly nice because you have a little space. Each site comes with a picnic table, a raised barbecue grill and a fire pit. It's a bit confusing to find since Hwy 1 continues left and you have to take Admiral Craik Drive; there is no sign indicating this. We didn't reserve ahead because of the time of the year, but I would recommend it starting in May because it is quite a trip out to the park and you don't want to get there and not be able to camp. We were given a 50% discount because we had a Golden Age pass!
The bathrooms are beautiful. Clean, tiled, double space, fiberglass shower stall. There is even a free washer and dryer. There are 4 showers in the west bathhouse. The east bathhouse is closed temporarily, but I assume there are another 4 showers there.Date of Stay: March, 2010Rate Paid: $9.00“What a dump!” for Capri Court Mobile Home
1 out of 2 people found this review helpfulThis is mainly a trailer park but there are RV sites at the very end (I can't believe there are 50 sites, although I didn't count them.) Most sites are gravel, but some seem to be abandoned trailer pads. We are pretty narrow (less than 8') and it was scary going onto one of the pads. There ARE trees. Sites are either 30 amp or 50 amp, not both so you have to check each site to be sure. The only way to use the bathrooms and laundry is to put down a $25 deposit with the office. But the office closes at 5 PM and is also closed for lunch. We didn't feel comfortable using their water. It's a Good Sam park but I can't imagine where they got their rating.

2 out of 2 people found this review helpfulWith 5 10-acre fishing ponds, this camp caters to fisherpeople. No license required. The ponds are stocked with bass, bream, catfish and something called sacalait. It is quite far off the beaten track. Roads are gravel and about half of the sites are now concrete pads. They circle one of the fishing ponds. While there are trees near sites 1 to 22 they are quite small and don't give much shade. No trees on the rest of the sites. Usual private RV park spacing. Small laundry. Clubhouse. The night we were there (Thursday) park residents were having a fish fry outside the clubhouse.

1 out of 2 people found this review helpfulThis park is just off exit 97 of I10 and you can hear the cars all night when your windows are open, but everything else about it is very nice. The trees are tall and ample, there is a small lake (10 acres) that the park wraps around, the staff is very helpful and friendly (sent us to a wonderful, out of the way place to get fresh shrimp). The sites are all concrete pads and, as usual in private parks, close to each other. Each has a picnic table.
The bathrooms are bright and clean and the laundry is quite large. You are in the heart of Cajun country.
Stay 4 nights and pay for 3. Wi-fi is free and very good. Some hookups have cable TV. 2 swimming pools (not open in early March). 337-235-2739Date of Stay: March, 2010Rate Paid: $40.00“Right on the MIssissippi” for River View RV Park & Resort
2 out of 2 people found this review helpfulClosest park to downtown Natchez, right across the river. Large, well-cared for park. Concrete pads, gravel roads. Large office area with lots of tables, games, store. Advertises wi-fi, but you have to be in the area surrounding the office to get it and then it is s-l-o-o-o-w, so slow I gave up trying to write this review! Nice laundry. But I gather most guests use their own bathrooms because the only public ones are in the center in the office, a l-o-o-o-n-g way away from most of the sites. Has cable TV connection but only 5 channels.

1 out of 2 people found this review helpfulWe have stayed twice in this park on our way south. The spaces are all concrete pads and are level. Cable connection is at the site at no cost. They have upgraded the WiFi since we were here last (2007) and it is free; don't even need a password to connect. The bathrooms are among the best ever. There are 4 for the 27 spaces; each has a huge shower, a toilet, and a sink. Very clean. Very bright. There are 2 washers and 2 dryers and a lounge (in the same building as the laundry and bathrooms) with a TV, pop machine, soap machine and 3 small tables with 2 chairs each. The building is open 24 hours a day.
The park is right on the Mississippi and you can see barges going up and down the river. But there is no wading, swimming, or fishing allowed. The casino is right next door but very easy to ignore.
When we got here the first site we picked didn't have any electricity. We tried 5 more sites and 2 of them didn't have electricity. Don't know what's going on; maybe somebody lost money at the casino and got angry. The RV park is on the river side of a concrete floodwall so you can actually see the river and it has a measure of privacy because it is separated from the main casino parking lot.
An old earthen dike has been turned into a quarter-mile nature trail, complete with interesting story boards covering nature and local history. Saw a beautiful red fox as we walked the trail in the morning.Date of Stay: March, 2010Rate Paid: $19.00
