Avoid!

One to avoid. There are many better and cheaper campgrounds in the area.

This particular one is near the entrance to Hoh Rainforest and is simply a cleared area at the back of a cafe parking lot. It looks as if the rear of the parking lot became overgrown with grass and weeds so they put up some numbered posts and called it a campground.

Their website advertises a price of $19 for full hookups, but they will refuse to honour this price. When I arrived, the girl at the registration desk demanded $30.

I challenged this but she would not budge. She seemed completely incapable of understanding why I was annoyed at being misled, and simply kept boasting about her recent public bathroom re-fit, which is apparently the reason for the huge price hike.

If she spent a little more time listening to her customers' points of view, she may have decided to give the sites themselves some much needed attention instead and deal with the overgrown grass and potholes.

As she was so proud of her new bathroom, I questioned why she had not been so successful at updating her advertised pricing. I was told: "That's just not my skillset". A poor excuse really as she had already clearly managed to pick up the phone to a plumber / builder.

As I left the office, I heard her laugh at me behind my back and noticed that the prices on the sign outside had also been covered up. Unfortunately I suspect they are trying to pull people in with the advertised $19 and hoping they will cough up the rest when they arrive. Judging by how empty the campground was in the height of the season, it doesn't seem to be working!

My recommendation would be to check out Hoh Oxbow DNR campground just a few miles south west off the 101. It's free with a Discover Pass or $10 without one. No hookups but quiet and secluded with seating, fire-pits and you will be treated to a great view of the gorgeous turquoise waters of the Hoh River instead of the back of a cafe. There is plenty of room for large RVs despite the recommended max length of 21ft (ours is about 33ft and we could have comfortably brought something bigger).
