Great stay

Lovely park with a terrific setting only draw back was the power plant across the lake and the hum when they generate. It's like listening to boat motors on the lake.
We stayed in slot #11. it's on the hill above the lake at the end of the drive. No view because of the trees but very private. No one on our open side. Be aware as it's the last slot on the right and the hill drops off just past the pad. I'm not sure we would have gotten in with a 34' fiver without 4 wheel drive. The great good sam's reps were helping us in and they said a lot of people have trouble getting into this site without the extra from the 4 wheels.
We would come here again if we get back this way on our journeys..

Beautiful and quiet park

Had a awesome time at park. Stayed 5 days. Our lot#58 was pretty level. Campsite has a RV pad and tent pad with table, grill and fire pit. Very close to the lake. Several RV pads in section A and C. Section B was in middle of park. Had plenty of room for slide outs, had septic, 50amp electric and water hookups. Cell reception was good. (Verizon). TV reception was good as well. Was able to get 11 channels OTA. Very peaceful at park. Park is very clean and well maintained. Able to gather fallen trees, limbs for firewood from area. They have a hiking trail in park and paved walking trail before park entrance. Visitors center has some firewood for sale and other small items. Diamond Head community store has more basic items about 3 minutes from park entrance. Rangers on duty 7 days a week. NOTE* Seems there is a lot of Asian Beatles swarms at end of November so be sure to buy some lemon oil products to help deter there presence. They get into your camper and crawl all over. Hard to get rid of...

Convenient and Quiet

This is a very nice state park located about 12 miles off Interstate 30, and about 10 miles from the city of Hot Springs. It's a very convenient yet quiet location in between both places. The park sits adjacent Lake Catherine one of three major lakes in the general area. There are plenty of fishing and boating options available, the on-site marina offers several rental options by the hour, half-day, or even full day. Several hiking options are available, including a short 2 mile hike to a really nice waterfall. Other trails go to slightly higher elevations and a bit more climbing, but rewarded us with loads of blooming wildflowers and butterflies.

Most (but not all) of the campsites are fully paved, including the ones with full hookups. The park itself is very hilly and many of the campsite reflect this; you will definitely need to do some leveling side-to-side in your trailer to feel comfortable. I did not see any pull-thru sites so be prepared to back into your space. The campsites themselves are very generously spaced; both sites adjacent to ours were occupied yet those trailers were at a distance of about 70'-80'. Several sites offer a clear view to the southern sky for satellite reception; we did so with no problems and saw numerous other sites that had satellite antennas setup.

We stayed here in our travel trailer and would stay here again, although there are several choices in the immediate area that may be just as comfortable.

Great park in a beautiful setting

It was fall break and we were looking for a nice place to spend a few days. We could not have chosen a better place. The park is laid out in a hilly area so that from our spot (#9) we could only see 6 or 7 other spots. The spaces are about 60 feet apart in a wooded area. Very quiet and peaceful. This park has been recently renovated and the pads are level with space for any motor home or 5th Wheel, plus an area for tents by each pad. Picnic tables are new and large with charcoal grills and fire pits. There are also hiking trails of 2, 3, 4 miles just south of the park. Absolutely beautiful place. Lots of local people there spending the weekend at the lake. They were completely full and we wanted a place by the water but they were already gone. Turns out that our place was actually better because one day it became quite windy by the lake and awnings and chairs flying everywhere, but our place in the trees was just a slight breeze that hardly rattled our awning.

Lake Catherine State Park

Nice park on a lake with a nice power plant on the far side. I was only here 2 nights, but enjoyed my stay, and it was a short, pleasant drive into downtown Hot Springs. My site was in a little cul-de-sac, on the water, and the neighbors were fun. Clean showers. Cell phone and modem worked. Quiet and friendly, it was mostly occupied by local people with their families on vacation.
