Lake Fort Smith State Park

Excellent

Completely new within the past 10 years, this park is convenient to the nearby interstate highway but wonderfully quiet. Fully paved concrete sites with asphalt roads throughout the park, there are 20 full hookup sites. Didn't have to even do any side-to-side leveling at the site either, and all sites have picnic table and most have partial shade.

Most of the full hookup sites will offer satellite reception, and there are a handful of over-the-air antenna channels available including most of the major networks. Be sure to ask when making your reservation if you can use a satellite antenna at the chosen site. There is no wifi service thru the campground but is available at the visitor center, plus cellular service is very strong all over.

The hiking is very good here with hikes of 1m, 4m, and 10m+ readily available. Highly recommend hiking a portion of the Ozark Highland Trail which has its' western terminus right behind the park's visitor center. Even covering a short 2-3 miles of this trail on a day hike you'll get a solid feeling of the ruggedness of the Ozark mountains where you're camping.

We stayed here in a travel trailer and would return. Don't be put off by the winding access road from the interstate, the park is only about 6 miles off the highway. Just slow down, it's very drive-able including for those with large RV's.
