Ridgway State Park - Elk Ridge Loops

We stayed loop E of the Elk Ridge campground in the Dutch Henry section of the park. Elk Ridge loops have more shade than the other camping areas. There aren't any water or dump hookups in this section of the park. Shared water is available at spigots located throughout the sites. There is a dump station near the entrance to the park.

I think only the Po-co-chu-puk loops in the park (below the dam) have full hook-ups.

The restrooms were clean with flush toilets. The showers cost 25 cents per minute with a 4 minute minimum. 3 washers ($1.50) and 3 dryers ($1.00) are available. It is about a .7 mile walk down a trail to the lake. The lake was good for swimming. There are some really nice views of the mountains (especially from the walk-in sites). This is a popular lake for boating and fishing. There are plenty of trails for walking. Pets can use the trails but must be on leash. The campsites were nicely spaced. There is a cell phone tower in the Elk Ridge loops, but cell service was erratic went from 4 bars to none occasionally. We were not able to get Verizon EVDO data for our air card without an external antenna. With the external antenna we were able to get a strong reliable EVDO data signal. We found this campground very conveniently located to explore the area. No biting bugs were here when we stayed in early September.

Camp hosts were actively present and rangers regularly patrolled the park.

If you don't have a Colorado State Parks pass there is an additional charge of $6/day for your vehicle.

We will be back. This is one of our favorite parks.
