A wonderful surprise in Connecticut

We were looking for a dog-friendly place to take our pop-up, last minute, on a beautiful July weekend. We found Water's Edge tucked away on a small lake in Lebanon CT, not too far from Uncasville.

We ended up on site 69, which at the further end of the campground, but we were VERY happy with our site. It was private, totally shaded and we were glad to be on this particular end of the campground.

The activities are great, very well organized and lots to do for families. The pool was very nice -- kids enjoyed it -- and the crafts were exceptionally well done.

My husband took three kids out on a rented rowboat. No problems there. The lake is small but stocked. Each kid caught a small sunfish. It's catch and release.

I generally have a hard time finding nice campgrounds in CT... this one fits the bill. There are a few sites that are pretty exposed (right on the road) and the location of the cottages didn't look ideal, but there was not much traffic at ALL the weekend we were there, despite the fact that the campground was full.

Only cons were

1. It's kinda off the beaten path. This isn't really a con, but without being able to drive on the parkways, it's twist and turn to get to I-91 or I-95 from there;
2. the "small" playground (in the center of the campground) was really small. The kids enjoyed it, and it was in good shape... just kind of small. The really fun playground with pirate ship and such was all the way at the front entrance.

The bathrooms were older but clean and we never needed to wait for a shower. Plenty of hot water.

The people were SO friendly and helpful and we had a nice cooked breakfast Sunday morning (such a nice treat not to have to cook or stop when packing up).
