Drapery everywhere. Best Park In Georgia.
Can not say enough about this park. From the trees with Spanish Moss drapery to the excellent wide, level and separated sites, this is why it ranks in the top of all the camping directories on the web. Skid-a-way has picnic shelters, an interpretive center, bath houses in clean and good repair and several miles of walking and bike trails. Some sites are 100 feet apart, some sites have full hook-ups, several sites have water and power. There are a few newly constructed cabins to rent. The park borders Moon River on one side so far away we could not hear any speed boats. The another side borders a "village" of offices and one general market and wine shop. Another side borders a gated community. The only annoying noise is the Air Force jets that occasionally pass over. Savannah with its River Street and historic district is 20 minutes away. Tybee Island is just over 30 minutes away. Will we return? Hell, yes.
Beautiful place, off the beaten path.
Park is great, super pretty, and mossy and lovely. Access is a bit tight and there are no directionals on the roads. Otherwise fabulous.
NOTE: Due to our late hour of arrival and road construction at the time, we got lost trying to find this place boondocked at Walmart (Montgomery Cross Rd.) the night before, just 6 miles away!
Lovely Park with Great Programs
This park is on the outskirts of Savannah, and a bit of a haul in traffic to get to the historic areas of town. However the park itself is lovely, with lots of nature, hiking trails, marshes, history and culture to be discovered. Definitely treat yourself to one of the ranger programs - they are excellent, and we most enjoyed learning about the local wildlife, plants and tidal flows.
The camping spots are all very spacious, and they're all on a first come first serve basis - even if you have a reservation. We like this, as you can choose what works for you when you arrive. They offer water and electric, and there is a dump station, trash and recycling onsite.
Cellular towers seem to be on the edge, and we had marginal Sprint and AT&T signal, but it was at 3G. Enough to get work done, but not enough to squander our day away online (probably a plus).
All and all, enjoyed this park. However it is a bit on the pricey side - especially considering you also pay a day use fee on top of it.
Nice state park
Scenic. Very quiet. Pick your own site, most with W&E only. Handy to downtown Savannah. We love Savannah, so stay there often while going up or down I-95.
