Camp among the T-A-L-L trees
Set among very, very tall ponderosa pine trees, this campground is also on the edge of the huge Lake Coeur d'Alene. The campsites are more spread out than private parks, but not as private as some we have been in. We can see 3 other campers from our front window; big deal, right? The campground is built on a hill so you are going to need levelers on most sites, if level matters to you. Many of the sites are over 40' long, but there are a lot of curves on the road so it might be a bit tricky to manuever a really big rig. Gravel interior road. This was a CCC camp in the '30s and there is a nice display at the new visitors center at the entrance. Just be sure to turn off at Hawley's Landing. It doesn't say anything about a campground and we went right on past it. Had to go another 5 miles before we could find a place to turn around.
One shower house/bathrooms for 42 campsites. Each side has 2 showers and 2 stalls. Clean. The handicapped shower has a bench that spans the shower and its attached changing area. Neat idea.
If the visitor center isn't open and you just roll in unreserved, you need to pay with cash at the honor box. Site 45 proved to be pretty level. There is firewood for sale at site 23.
