Avoid At All Costs
I contacted these folks two weeks before we left our Illinois home to make a reservation. I was told no reservation required just come in. Well we came in. When we arrived, well before the posted office hour closing time the office was closed. A sign on the door gave us a phone number to call. We called time and time again without making a connection. We were anxious to get settled after a long travel day. As we searched the grounds to find help we got a good look at their sites. Wow! All gravel and uneven sites and the entire campground was nasty. Junk all around. Not well maintained in any way. How in the world can Good Sam give them their designation? I don't get it!! At this point we knew we had to find another campground. There weren't any nearby that had an opening. We found one but we had to drive an additional 120 miles to get there. I urge anyone considering this campground to drive on by. It's not even worth a look!!!
It was better than parking along the road....
It's a very old park, or seems like it. You can see it has been there a while and needs a lot of maintenance.
There is one dumpster site, a lonnnng walk from the camp space to behind the office / store. The lids aren't kept closed, and a cat jumped out at me when I tossed my trash in!
It seems to me a lot of people here are full time residents. Ducks walking all over the park, the lake looks pretty dirty.
The roads in the park are dirt, and narrow in the curves. The spaces dirt, some grass next to most spaces. Not all the spaces are level.
There is a small store in the office and they sell ice. there is also some sort of ice cream bar in there as well.
The people I met there are friendly and basically told me I could park wherever I wanted. So I picked spot next to one of the few trees in the park.
The park is right next to a busy road, and you can hear the freeway even though it is a ways away.
There is a laundry across the street, and some gas stations down the road.
It was a spot to stay, for the night, but next time, I would look for another park.
I give it 2 stars as it was a place to stay and had hookups.
I hope this review helps others to make a good decision for their trip.
Calloway RV Park, Hammond, Louisanna
Awful, wouldn't even stay here in an emergency situation. Crowded with live ins and people walk their dogs and allow them to dump at the foot of your stairs and they leave it there. Wild ducks everywhere, cats running loose, dogs not on leaches. No cable service. WiFi fades in and out. Dirt and grass sites are narrow. Just plain nasty. Shame on Good Sam for recommending this place. Picture on internet very decieving.
