Winter Camping Scusset Beach on Cape Cod Canal

NOTE: this is a WINTER Camping Review

Winter Camping in Massachusetts is limited and Scusset Beach is one of the 4 parks that are even open, that provides electric. The camping is Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights only, and your rig has to be self contained. (sewer and your own utilities, ONLY electrical hook up is provided).

The rate for a Mass resident is $18 per night, non-resident is $20. No fires are allowed at this park during winter, which is typical for state parks and beaches on and near Cape Cod. (in summers there is a community fire pit).

When you arrive at the station, you fill out an envelope with your check and leave it in the door slot. Sites are not reserved and you just pick one and park. The campground is very open minus a few scrub pines and brush. The sites are fairly level, however, we have noticed after a snow melt and rain, some of low sites flood over.

The park is very clean, and because its winter, you may be the only camper there 3-4 weekends during January and February. From November to March 2014 the average was 3-5 campers a weekend! Sweet!

Just prior to the entrance is Mr G's Pizza, a Convenience Store, a Hardware Store, a Dunkin Donuts and McDonalds too.

Winter Camping is much better than I ever thought it would be, especially since I cannot stand the cold. But some days the sun helped and it was amazing to watch tug boats and barges head through the canal via the peekaboo view we had from our site. As long as you bundled up, the walk and views from the vast sandy beach were breathtaking. Also, because you are on the bike path that runs the length of the canal, you could I suppose take a bike ride or run like some of the folks we saw out and about in below freezing weather.

Even though I could not think of any negatives, I gave a 4 star in hopes that Winter Camping is perfect somewhere I haven't found yet :)
