Beautiful Beach... Crowded Campground
We had high hopes for this campground after some glowing reviews from friends. We booked a site according to the Michigan reservation system that said it was 'secluded', level and large enough for a 40' RV.
The site was actually rather unlevel and our 35' motorhome barely fit in... spot 108 is very oddly shaped. And it definitely wasn't secluded. The front view is of the housing neighborhood across the road, and the site was clearly visible from the park road and backed up to two other sites. We had a family reunion that moved in at the site next to us, that were up to all hours of the morning around the campfire.
In the morning, we requested a move to another site we liked better - and the staff was very accommodating. Unfortunately, there are few sites within this campground that are our style. Most are tightly packed in, unlevel and offer little to no division.
The beaches here are lovely - although not too sandy. And, there is a great bakery in walking distance of the campground across the street.
We had boostable Verizon and AT&T 4G service.
Heavily wooded
The campground has heavily wooded sites but with clear sight lines between the sites. There are lots of hiking trails in the park and a bike trail that takes you to Rogers City, 4.5 miles away. They have bikes for rent at the campground.
The roads are paved but the sites are dirt/grass. Usual wonderful Michigan State Park bathrooms.
Tight quarters
It's a nice enough campground, with beautiful beaches. Staff was accomodating, as I had to change sites. The one I reserved was nothing as described. There is no grass and lOts are small, and skinny, and right on top of eachother. There were a few nice sites tho, we ended up in one that was not too bad. Kids had a great time, n the explore program was nice. Bike n hiking trails were super. We will go back, but was not my favorite state park by a long shot.
