A Railroading!
I'm afraid I was shocked That this kind of railroading could happen at what seemed to be a reputable park.We made reservations sight unseen from the Good Sam book recommendation for 6/14/2019 for 4 days at the Castle Rock Park in St Ignace. I felt comfortable doing this as we have had 100% satisfaction so far on this trip. We recently retired and have decided to set foot in the 50 we haven't made yet in life. I will have to say that it rained that day so the park was not at it's best. The conditions were muddy, cold, and miserable. I made the mistake of not looking at the sight before agreeing to stay,(not sure this is an issue as I was probably sunk with this owner when I gave a credit card with the reservation.) My wife and I decided to Walmart camp and look for new digs the next day. When I went back to cancel was even prepared to give one day rent as a cancellation fee. Most all the parks we have stayed at so far had a 24 hour cancel time. NOT HERE!! Was charged for the whole stay! Be very careful if you decide to go to this park. There is even a sign hidden behind you on the door NO REFUNDS! If you want to deal with this kind of backwards arcane deceitfulness, good luck. I will be sure there is a cancellation clause from now on!
Disappointed
we stayed there one night in a 5th wheel. Found it to be unkept. No stone, just dirt. It was wet thus tracking dirt on your shoes. Laundry facilities were good. Sites needed stone and maintenance. Would only stay there in a pinch.
What a Gem!
While this park is a privately owned park, it feels a bit more like a state park. Many of the sites are heavily wooded and private feeling. And many of them have fabulous lakefront views of Mackinaw Island.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 5-night stay here. Excellent, attentive and friendly staff. Well maintained and private feeling sites.
The only downsides are some of the advertised amenities - like WiFi and a pool. The WiFi is currently provided by a cheap router only in the FHU area at the top of the park. And the pool is actually located at a motel property the owners also own in town. And the beach is a bit overgrown and not as sandy as you might expect.
Otherwise, the park is fabulous. Great views. Trails to explore. And the bathhouses were spic-span clean. It's super close to Castle Rock, which is a great value of $1 to climb for a great view, and just a quick ride into the downtown of St. Ignace. And on Saturday evenings during the summer, you get a great view of the town's fireworks right from the campground!
The WiFi sucked, but we had boostable 4G for both Verizon and AT&T.
