Smoky Mountain Hideaway Campground

We use Mama Gerties as a stopover between the Eastern seaboard and our home in middle Tennessee. It’s located about 12 miles from Asheville NC which would make an ideal “home base” while visiting the area. It is a very clean park with friendly staff and all the sites are level but, that is the only thing level with this campground. It’s built on a slope up in the mountains and from I-40 it’s up hill all the way. I would not recommend this park for someone with disabilities.
The air is cool and fresh, little need for AC, and it has fire rings to sit around in the cool evenings. It’s nestled in typical Smoky mountain foliage of hardwood trees and rhododendrons. I imagine this would be a spectacular park to stay at for the fall colors! The office/bathhouse/laundry building at the entrance also has a nice covered porch with Adirondack chairs and a lovely mountain view. This is a 5 star park with a 3 star location (steep grade) so I’ve given it 4 stars.
