Cheesequake State Park

A Port in the Storm but...

If you need a campground in mid-NJ and your height is less than 11' and you don't need electricity, this park will do. The sites are packed sand (not at all loose) and flat. I don't think there was a site that we couldn't have parked in and leveled easily. The sites are HUGE. While you can see your neighbors, they are pretty far away.

But because it has no electricity (and none of the NJ state parks seem to) and lots of shade, we stressed out our RV by driving comparably little and using our batteries for 3 nights for power. Admittedly, we weren't being especially frugal, but still...

The park has lots of trails. We saw many people on foot. And, although it is divided by the NJ Parkway, the road noise is hardly noticeable. Chalk that up to no trucks on the parkway!

The gates close at 6 PM (in October they do, anyway) and we just squeezed in minutes before they were closed. They give you a code for the exit gate when you check in, but we got there after the office closed, so -- no code. Luckily, we didn't need to leave. We did get the code but on the last day we left before the 'in' gate opened, but the 'out' gate was standing wide open. (shrug)
