Wonderful state park! One of our favs!

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating: 4.5 stars
RV: 25' motorhome

We loved this park! We went to the website ahead of time as a stop-over while driving the Natchez Trace and chose our spot based on the website map, site dimensions/description and photos. Loved that they had photos...really helped us select the perfect site. We reserved ahead and paid just under $41, including taxes and day use fees.

The campground has lots of trees/shade (not satellite friendly), a river, is easy to navigate, beautiful scenery, clean restrooms, and the campsites were incredibly wide/large with plenty of space cushion around so we weren't on top of our neighbors. Our site had hookups and was hard packed gravel/dirt. The park was fairly crowded for a Thursday, and the ranger came along that morning around checkout time to make sure we were vacating our space so they could ensure the next person wouldn't find us still there. Fair enough. We had a premium spot on the river, but it was more for ambiance as the flow was practically nil, so the river was a bit sketchy looking. Our site had a picnic table and fire-ring.

We had our dogs on 15 - 20 foot leads and they enjoyed plenty of room on our site without encroaching on neighbors sites. The other campers we met were friendly. Lots of kiddos riding bikes and having fun, and we didn't encounter loud, obnoxious campers at night. I would definitely recommend this beautiful park and would not hesitate to stay here again...only wish we'd had more time here to chill and enjoy the nice weather (June 1). We camped at Montgomery Bell State Park in a Motorhome.

Redneck jungle camp

Montgomery Bell SP, Burns TN
This is a pretty state park not far from Nashville. It has many amenities such as an 18-hole golf course, sandy beach at a lake, modern shelters, full service lodge with a small conference center, fishing lakes, hiking, historical points of interest and hiking trails. It sits on a rustic wooded and somewhat hilly plot of acreage. The trees are especially beautiful for fall foliage. I give this campground a fairly low rating primarily due to the lack of campground maintenance.
The good:
Level sites
Inexpensive
Firewood available at campground office
Pretty wooded campground with creek side sites
Strong signal for both AT&T and Verizon

The bad:
Most septic drains are located at the back of the sites. If you have a mid-section septic drain you’ll need to bring an extension pipe to make the reach
Pretty wooded campground makes navigating difficult for big rigs. We have a 34’ TT and my wife commented that we need trailer lube to get thru the trees to our site.
Skunks walk freely thru out the cg.

The ugly:
Fire pits not cleaned out
Cigarette butts, debris and dog feces abundant in the cg
Campers drive TOO fast
Fills up on weekends with loud, obnoxious campers

Great family friendly campground.

Great sewer as well as non-sewer crushed rock/gravel sites along a shallow stream. Most sites are shady as there are an abundance of trees. I would actually rate this park a 4.5 due to the bathroom setup. I rarely use park restrooms and this one is at the bottom of my list. There is no bench or anywhere to set anything down without it getting wet. Granted, there are a couple if hooks but that's it. But the worst part was the flimsy opaque shower curtain that provided little privacy as I couldn't close it flush with the wall and could even see people as they walked by through the crack of space.
This is a very popular park. It was full through the weekend we were there; probably due to Spring Break. There were lots of families. We arrived on a Monday when the park may of been 10% full leaving us plenty of options. The campground is only a small portion of the park. Hiking trails, historical landmarks, sports fields, a visitor center, hotel, and eco-cabins are a few of the many amenities. By Thursday all the water sites are gone. In fact, we left on a Thurs and our site was taken before we hit the dump station! The only thing that would keep me from coming back is the 45 min drive to Nashville. With a Dodge 3500, it costs around $25 round trip (3.79/gal) with a few stops along the route. We went there 5 of 10 days so it might of been more cost effective to stay at the more costly parks within Nashville. At $20/nt E/W and $25 E/W/S it's still quite the bargain.
