Fun and relaxing
Palmdale RV Resort is a great place to stay! The park has huge lots, friendly people and lots of activities in the area. South Padre Island is just a few minutes away. My husband and I enjoy the sea turtles and the tours the island offers. Brownsville and Harlingen are close by with airports which is very convenient. The park has cottages to purchase or rent if one does not have a camper and the cottages are new and very nice. There is terrific restaurants to choose from. The area has several birding centers also. There is so many fun things to do here. I highly recommend staying at Palmdale.
Wonderful people, crummy roads
We are finishing up a 5 month stay here and we love the park. The biggest drawback is that the roads are filled with potholes and walking around the park becomes an obstacle course. There are efforts being made to fix the roads but we've been hearing that all winter long -- and with a wetter than normal winter I'm not sure I can blame anyone -- about the time they get read to pave something it starts raining again.
This IS a 55 and over park.
That said.... The people here are wonderful. A great many are multiple year returnees, they are friendly and welcoming without being suffocating. They are helpful to neighbors needs. They look out for each other -- seasonal volunteers arrange for visiting nurses to check on any of the residents with health issues, and it's just a warm, homey place to be.
There are plenty of activities from exercise classes, to cards, to shuffleboard. The pool is kept at a swimmable temperature for older folks. There is a voluntary resident's association that collects money for local charities, they do a charity hog roast and a few little things during the year and some of the association funds are donated to specific causes in the park. This year they helped pay for a NEW security gate that was just installed. And, in contrast to any of the other parks in the area the sites are spacious and roomy. We toured some 50 other parks in the Rio Grande Valley and this had the biggest sites by far. And, you are 20 miles from Padre Island, 12 miles from Brownsville, and about 40 miles from McAllen -- right in the middle of the things people want to see and do.
We like it enough to return next year. Maybe we'll see you here.
