Lake Barkely State Park RV Park

We stayed here in November 2010 so the park was winding down for the year. We arrived after dark and had trouble finding the place due to absent signage on the roadways. After arriving at the park, and driving in on a small one lane blacktop road with limbs hanging down scratching up my motorhome, the hosts were very polite and helpful. They gave me directions to the site and helped me get set up. There were old but clean restrooms and showers. Due to the time of the year not much was going on in the park. The next day we went to the lodge and ate in the dining room which was very tasty and affordable. We also did some driving in the area and got some tourist items in eddyville. The park needs to be updated for larger motorhomes but is suited for most. The sites had 30 amps and water but there was a dumpsite on the way out. There needs to be more here for kids. Great place if you want to be alone.

Destin Army Recreation Center

This park is one of the nicest military parks we have stayed at. We have been coming here for years but only stayed in the RV park for the last two. There are full hookups throughout the rv park and free cable. There is a laundry and shower which is always clean. This Military park is gated and is surrounded by high concrete walls that provides the necessary security and privacy. It is on the Bay and the sunsets are beautiful. You can rent sea doos and boats for fishing. Everybody likes to go out on the dock late at night and fish. The only negative is that there is no beach here and you have to drive about a mile to go to the air force beach. The park hosts in the office are always nice and polite. It is also a pet friendly park. I have a big rig and some of the lots are a bit tight but worth the trouble.

Rough River Dam State Park Campground

We camped here July 2010 and found it nice but as in most state parks was a bit outdated. Upon arrival the hosts at the gate were nice and polite as were the campers at the site. We have a 40 ft Motorhome so we were limited to 12-15 sites at the park. Our site was gravel and not very level but it was a pull thru and our automative levelers made it nice. There was 50/30 amps along with water at the site. Restrooms and showers were old but clean most of the time even though the campground was full. The dump was on the way out. Our two grandsons enjoyed the pool at the lodge and the swimming area at the beach on the lake. We have reservations this summer and will post photos.
