Nice place

We stayed at Crappie Cove which had nice small playground and nice facilities. Camp host was very nice and campground was quite and shaded. There are other campgrounds with more water access as well primitive sites. People did tend to leave trash, mostly bottlecaps and beer cans. The beach is also nice. This was our first time camping but we have used the lake many times and enjoy it.

Great dump stations.

Good Layover

We hardly had time to explore this campground. Large park with lots of camping. There are some hikeing options but we spent our time in the river. If it were not for the poor access to the banks this would be a five star campground. Clean showers and bathrooms with large tall trees shading the area but well out of RV roofs.

Some sites had full hook ups but most were poorly graded making keeping your sewer hose down hill impossible. We opted to stay at a water and electric only site.

Also close to Merimac caverns, the privately owned cave offers tours, tubing and zip lines.

Off the beaten path, but is it worth it?

We selected this park due to location, it was a halfway meet up location. Looked to be mostly locals. The camp sites were empty but every RV spot was filled.

Nice wooded camp ground with ok shower and restrooms. Not many water hook ups. Well maintained grounds with a three hiking trails, but only one through the camp ground. The rest were a short drive to another park location. From there all three trails could be hiked along with another short drive to Petroglyphs or a spring fed stream swim area. The swim area was nice but pretty small. The campground did have a small swing set and playground. The pool, also a short drive, is private ands costs extra.

We would stay there again if it fit our travel plans but would not go out of our way to stay there.

Nice parking lot

Clean place with great showers, laundry and well maintained pool (but small). Had plenty of spots but is a large asphalt parking lot which gets pretty hot. The owner and host were very nice.

Location is everything for this place. If you want to be in Saint Louis this is a good stop. If you plan on spending time in the camp ground, this is not the place. Great launching spot for activities, but not a destination location.

We felt safe with our kids and would stay again for the proximity to City Museum and other places.
