Few and Far Between

Eastern Colorado could easily be a new State called West Kansas. This area is wide open with towns few and far between and RV Parks even worse. This very nice little rv park is almost alone on the entire length of US385 in Colorado. "The Wray Hitch'n Post" has been under new ownership for a year and the new owners are trying very hard to update and expand. I can attest to them being busy every day keeping the park looking nice with green lawns and flowers.
This is a small park with 20 sites. The long, pull through sites are level gravel and full hookup. Most of them are occupied by permanents and seasonals, though the owners keep a couple open for travelers, as they did for us.
Call for a reservation. They are great people and will do what they can to accommodate. There are back-in sites with trees and grass, something the pull throughs don't have, if you can give up sewer and unhook your tow.
All sites are 30/50amp, close but not impossible. A couple of picnic tables are in little park vignettes but none at the sites. This park is a rest or business stop not a destination.
The park and all the long term sites are very clean and neat, very well maintained. The permanents appear to be power line workers. They must work hard, it is very quiet at night. The owners live on the property, the "Office" is the front room of their house. The nights are well lit with lights on the power pedestals.
The bathrooms and showers are small in the same bldg as the laundry. The entire area was clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were cleaned daily. Under the previous owners the showers were "pay". This requirement has been discontinued, though the pay boxes remain with tape across them.
This park is South of Wray on a hill crest of US385 there is some truck noise esp. "Jake Brakes". The park's biggest problem has to be signage. There is a large, lit at night, sign at the entrance that is so weathered that it is almost totally bleached out and illegible. It is hard enough to locate this park in the daytime because of all the beautiful evergreen trees that surround the park for privacy. This park is a great stop for 'R and R' , slow down going south out of Wray and watch for it.

Unusual City owned

If you have ever traveled in the empty Plains and been thankful to find a small town that allows RV's to park in their City parks and maybe even offer electric for a small honor fee, Robidoux is that concept on steroids.
Robidoux RV Park (the word "New" is not part of the name) is owned and operated by the City of Gering. This is city property, patrolled by city police, fees collected by the City Clerk and yet a full service, 42 site RV Park.
A better address to put into a GPS would be: 585 Five Rocks Road, Gering.
All roads are blacktop and the pads are long and level cement. The utilities are well placed for each site and hookup was easy. Each site as a picnic table, there is full hookup with and without cable. The cement site includes the patio. What is odd, maybe, is that the sites and utilities are rather mixed. We are in a pull-in,back-out site, there are a lot of these around a center circle of lawn that is a nice view. There are also double long sites with the utilities on the same side, which would mean nose-to-tail unless you have extension cords and long hoses to pass under your rv.
The park is beautiful with lots of green lawns, flowers and landscaped shrubbery. It is maintained meticulously by city crews. Timed sprinklers even go off in the morning. The lawns and the space between sites is almost unheard of in RV Parks, other than RV Resorts and membership parks. This park is clean and neat and constantly cared for. There are two host families that will help you with anything you need. The park is on high ground, East is the Nebraska country side, behind you to the West is Scotts Bluffs. It is an amazing sunset.
Wi-Fi is a struggle particularly when the park is full. Cable tv is great, they give you a remote to operate your tv on their cable and it works. Other park utilities work very well. There are some permanents that are obvious by their trailer skirting and big LP tanks, but they are neat and tidy if a bit retro.
The bathrooms are clean and functional, not extravagant and antiseptic, but just what you need without concern. The bathroom design is more a camp style and sufficient. The laundry is small, but less expensive.
There is an overflow area with water and power but it is gravel and not nearly as nice as the formal sites.
Call for a reservation, you won't regret it.

Perfect Starting Spot

This is not the Sundance of the Film Festival, nor is it ski country, this Sundance is a small cowboy town, pop 1,100, that is the perfect location for visiting the big tourist sites in South Dakota and Wyoming. You visit then you get back to this sensible corner of the Black Hills.
This RV Park is immediately obvious for being neat, clean, and well managed. Office and staff was a very nice visit. The store has many items for sale from basic grocery items to rv necessities, souvenirs and neat "stuff" to look at. The park is cut into a hill side in terraces and very attractive. The entry roads were wide and site access easy. All sites are pull through, wide and long, and most are on the second level with a commanding view of the hills in the distance. The utility hookups are almost perfect. Power, water, and cable are convenient and easy. Sewer hookups are at the rear of the site nearly to road edge. Not convenient. Wi-Fi was a struggle at first, then fine once we picked one of their multiple hot-spots. Cable is 2.00 but worth it with many clear channels.
The grounds are well maintained and attractive there is grass, particularly in tent area, the rv sites are gravel.
This is an arid area with that ubiquitous red dirt; flowers and grass are a struggle but the owners have worked hard to bring both into their decorations and landscaping.
There is a nice looking pool with a fence enclosure and pool/patio furniture around.
Bathrooms are practically sparkling clean with surprising lighting: a big dome skylight in the ceiling. With daylight streaming in everything looks very bright and inviting. The showers were also very clean and hot.
The bathrooms are obviously monitored closely. There is a laundry that has access off the office so it is always in view. It looks new and is clean and comfy with furniture not folding chairs.
There aren't any specific walking trails, but as this is a nice neighborhood you can wander just about anywhere for your walking ritual.
This is a good park for seeing the sights then coming back "home" for a secure night.

Time changes!

Please! Note the dates on the reviews below. We are just finishing a week stay at Red Trail and have found none of the problems mentioned. We were at Red Trail. Were they?
This is a family owned and operated RV park within walking distance of Medora and its shopping and activities. The couple managing it now is third generation; the wife who runs the office and store was raised here. This is a large park with over 90 sites for the biggest RV to tent sites, with overflow on adjacent property.
During the summer reservations would be good, there may be space but not the combination of water, sewer, and amperage you want. This is the biggest and best park in Medora, it fills.
The sites are mostly back-in, and people do unhook their tow, but weren't you unhooking to go to Teddy Roosevelt National Park. The sites seem close, but not impossible, there is room for slides and/or awnings and there is a patio and picnic table. Utilities are very convenient and hookup is easy. Cable TV is very good and at all sites, even tents, with 60+ channels and music. Cable is 2.00 extra but worth it.
The town of Medora is cut from the ND Badlands, scrub brush is more common than grass. Red Trail RV Park also finds lawns a struggle. Due to constant use and traffic and the arid area, grass is thin and worn in some spots. Rather like a ball field you've played on all summer. The sites are level gravel and stone, with big mature trees, but grass between some sites is threadbare. The park is kept clean and well maintained at all times. We find it comfortable and welcome like an old chair.
The town of Medora does not have a grocery store; the camp store here is actually well stocked compared to most, and also has a wide selection of common RV necessities. The office is well run and an interesting visit.
Sometimes the kids help, be patient Mom or Dad is near.
The bathrooms are basically clean and comfortable to use. They could probably use a deep cleaning by a commercial firm and updating as well. We used them and the showers everyday and had no problems nor qualms. Hot water never seemed to run out and showers were forceful.
The family managers are some of the nicest people we've met as full-timers. Our cable didn't work at first.
The husband had it working perfect in a heartbeat. These are good folks who serve as a family tradition,
and offer an old but very serviceable park for your safe and secure stay.

Good Basic RV Park

This is an old KOA that is well cared for by the owners of four years. This is a labor of love on their part and they really believe in making this the best they can. They even lead customers to their sites on bicycles.
You immediately notice that the park in clean and maintained...everything very neat. The sites are pull through and very long and wide. The roads were wide and easy even for a RV towing.
Utilities were easy to hook up. Our site had nice trees, but they did not interfere. Also a picnic table.
The park is tops in clean and the owner is rather particular about dogs. Dogs are not to be walked in camping areas or around the office. Not unreasonable when you see that the owners have mowed long dog walking paths in the back of the park. A good walk.
The bathrooms and showers are typical KOA but not bad, they are clean and comfortable, and they actually are cleaned every day. There is also a laundry.
This is a good, safe and secure RV park, well lit at night. There is some road noise because I94 literally runs along side the park. Jamestown RV Park was a good overnight stay for us.

Convenient @ I94 exit #77

Unfortunately there is no access to the lake, though the panoramic view is very nice.
This a small park with 14 RV sites and 10 Tent sites. The RV sites are long and level and alternate direction so that two rv's share a single power pedestal. This make these "pairs" of rv's rather close. All power is 30amp.
The utilities are easy hook up. The first six rv sites have sewer.
The park is well cared for by the husband and wife owners; very nice to visit and talk with. The lawns are very expansive and maintained. The park is clean and neat. The bathrooms were very clean and comfortable and the showers hot with plenty of force. There is no laundry. Antenna TV brought in lots of stations. This is a very nice park for a stop to get off the road. It is safe and secure, though it lacks in amenities, it is a comfortable stop.
There is a $2.00 fee per dog, per day. Which seems unusual as there are no dog facilities like a dog park or even a fenced run. We clean up after our dog. I don't know anyone that doesn't.

Surprising and Fun

We have never stayed at a casino RV Park before, this was very nice. As you come off US 30 the road starts toward the big hotel. Watch for a road on the right and signing for the RV park behind the hotel.
It is sort of double check in but very easy. Check in at the park and get an assigned site, take this info up to the hotel, an easy walk, and at the main desk you register at your assigned spot, pay for you stay and get bathroom pass cards. The RV park is run rather like the hotel.
There are 50 RV sites, all the roads are blacktop, the pads are cement and 50' long. You needn't unhook your tow. All sites are pull-through. There is power only, too bad. The park is very well maintained, as it is part of the hotel. Very clean and neat with lawns and shade trees around each RV. Each site has a picnic table
The bathrooms are very big and clean, and the laundry looks nice. Antenna TV works very well. The area is well lit and security is every where, it's a casino.
As an RV'er, I can not speak for the Hotel, but the casino is amazing. Huge rooms filled with the new digital age gaming machines of today, hundreds of them. Also an enormous bingo hall, table games, and even OTB.
And with all this there is still very nice restaurants, and even a "mall-type" food court, a buffet, big sports bars, and a gift shop. Quite a place! Very nice people who were as nice to RV'ers as they would have been to hotel guests. Never felt pressured to spend money, felt very welcome.

Basic KOA, good stop overnight

This is a basic KOA park, no bells and whistles. A good, safe overnight stay in a clean and well maintained park.
The office staff was very nice and the office and store fun to visit. All travelers sites are pull through and very long we did not unhook our tow. The permanents are backed in around the perimeter, clean and tidy and not a problem. They don't take away from the travelers sites.
Utility hookups were very easy. We got lots of stations on our antenna. Never did get Wi-Fi to work, staff blamed the full park. No problem, we carry a Sprint "Hot Spot" with us.
Bathrooms were clean and very comfortable. Obviously frequently cleaned.
There was an large attractive pool with enclosure, and a big picnic shelter nearby. Also a basic kids playground and a small mini-putt golf that was more like a putting green with obstacles.
They have one of the biggest dog runs I've seen. Very well made. No goofy KOA dog toys, just a big open space with a couple of tables. We just sat down wand watched our dog run and run.
This is a very nice, well maintained KOA without all the silliness that usually accompanies them.

A welcome stay on the open plains

This park is a very welcome sight on the otherwise open, flat plains of Kansas.
Like the rest of Kansas this park is open, windy, and treeless. The road off the highway is severely washboard. I hope they have it graded by now. The park is new all buildings are fresh and new and look it. Trees will be coming. There are grass lawns surrounding the park and buildings.
The sites are long and level; we did not unhook our tow. All sites and roads are gravel. The sites are full hook up and very conveniently located. The park is clean and neat and obviously well maintained. This is a park for a short stay. There are no special amenities or entertainment. But it is safe, secure stay and well lit.
The bathrooms are clean and very big. Permanents are located on the park perimeter and are very tidy.
The owner/manager works in town and arrives back at the park around 4:00 to open the office. If you arrive before, just pick a spot. There are workkampers on the grounds and will help you with any info you need, e.g. bathroom codes. Once the office is open you can register. It is all very informal. The office and its decor is beautiful in a Western theme and the furniture very comfy for just visiting.
There is an unusual walking loop, about a 1/4 mi, that is paved and lit with light posts and decorated with plains themed statuary and avant-garde pieces. It was fun to walk and look.
This park is a work in progress, and right from the owners heart. It is a good place to stop, we'll be back.
