Rustic wooded with lakeside sites

A 60 year old campground with bad gravel roads and in need of tender loving care but soo built into the woods and with lakeside sites it makes up for all evils. The lake is a nice size for canoes with waterfalls an easy paddle or drive away. Be prepared for rain since its in a temperate rainforest. Also Dupont State forest is just down the road with all the hiking. mountain biking you could want plus MORE waterfalls and some of the most mature forest left in eastern US. We lived in the region for over 15 years and never knew about it until we passed thru years later. Don't do what we did.

Hostile Owner, difficult parking, poor facilities.

Avoid this place if at all possible. although the rates are good the owner is an ill tempered very volatile man who finds fault over everything and anything. His manner needs much anger management and rx. Further more the bathhs is a bad joke, the sites are very hard to get in and out of (worst site planning we've ever seen), and there are no amenities except the riverside location (no fish due to major state bank reconstruction). Their lack of business in high season is a clear indication of the truth to this which we didn't realize until we got there.

Bizarre and unhealthy

The swimming pool is far from the toilets resulting in the pool being used as the commode. Often the bathroom doors were either not operable or locked. We also found the staff hostile and the owners dishonest. The gravel roads were washed out in many places and many sites were flooded after a moderate rain. Also The park is very fundamentalist christian to the point of questioning the owners stability. For example there are Christian icons everywhere, inside the office and out. Some are downright bizarre for a business establishment (a poster of Christ taking a shot of heroin for a soldier is just one example). We do not mind a religious owner (of any religion) but these people are way over the top and make an uncomfortable environment for the moderately religious camper. We believe parks that are religious in orientation should say so in their advertising and at reservations.
