Don't get sucked in!

Don't get sucked into their lingo about the park being full and you can stay in their "new" extension area. First, we were lied to as to the proximity of the public beach. We were told it was a mere 100 yards away. It was more like 500 yards. There was no view of ocean, unless you want to look at a couple private homes and a run down shed. Sites are nice from the perspective that it's new concrete, however, we were placed on the roadside and it was noisy because Hwy 98 is a main road. This is definitely an overflow area. There is a slew hole in the center of the extension area which I am sure will produce it's share of bugs in the warmer weather. When we stayed, there was no cable and another camper said they were there two weeks with promises of it being installed. He finally called the cable company himself and they were going to his site to hook up. Again, he indicated he was lied to about the circumstances surrounding the cable not being available. The wifi was supposed to work, however, stopped after our first day. We suspect it was because there were too many people on the wifi as the extension area filled up on the weekend. There are 3 channels available on regular tv and weather was cold and rainy, so we were greatly bored when not sightseeing. Plus, we needed the wifi for personal business. When we asked about when wifi would be fixed, they indicated we could call and talk to service person! Seriously?!!! Further, the office personnel basically didn't believe us that it wasn't working because campers three slots away from us indicated they had it. I have a background in computer technology and I assured her that it was not working. They came and reset the router on a telephone pole in the extension area and I was told that's all they could do. I was made to feel like I shouldn't be asking for it to be working and how dare I bother them. Needless to say, we left the next day, although planned to stay for more than a week. Three days was more than enough! It was Carrabelle Hell! Btw, the pool is not heated and laundry is 500 yards away. Plan to take your vehicle. We certainly were fed a line of bull when we reserved this campground. There is no excuse for lying and I feel they are trying to prove to their management company that the extension is a profitable venture. While there, we observed numerous sites that remained empty, yet over nighters were stuck in the extension. We found that to be curious. Do yourself a favor and find an alternate campground. There are many others in the area.

Hidden Gem

We started out at the Carrabelle Palm Beach Campground, which was aesthetically nice, but can't beat the beach access here. Hosts were so warm and welcoming and we stayed longer than planned. Will be coming back next year!
