An oasis during 3 days of excessive heat warnings

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $47.00
25' Motorhome with toad (42' overall)

We were on the road for 3 weeks and this resort was in the top 3. We were driving through an "excessive heat" advisory for 3 days, and most of the RV parks had zero shade, dust, stickers, & poor reviews. Basically parking lots. WillowWind was like an oasis!

We arrived after hour and chose a shaded, pull-thru site (#120) so we didn't have to unhook the toad. The after-hours map of available sites was clear and organized and the interior streets were wide and easy to navigate and sites clearly marked. Our site was within 1.25" of being level, pad was concrete and our dogs appreciated having some grass (our site was concrete and "living space" was rocks). The water spigot was in a valve box (which took me a minute to figure out), so if you go, don't worry when you don't see a raised spigot, just look inside the valve box. Most sites are heavily shaded with ample clearance for tall rigs, but there is an area of satellite friendly sites along the perimeter. We and most others opted for shade this time of year. There seems to be a few full-timers. The bathroom was immaculate, so much so that I took a shower in it (something I rarely do), rather than use the shower in our RV. It was heaven! There is a dog wash, fitness center, laundry, tent sites, dog park area, clubhouse with kitchen, and group area.

We found the other campers we encountered to be friendly. The man next to us, with his slick 4 horse trailer/5th wheel, said he and his family always stays at WillowWind whenever traveling through the area from Phoenix. It is a quiet campground. There are services...fuel, restaurants, grocery, etc very nearby. We overnight in WalMart parking lots, State Parks, Independent Parks, etc...different type places. If you are looking for a resort type campground, that is extremely well maintained, shady, level, safe and has plenty of services, I highly recommend WillowWind.

One of the best options in the area

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $50.00

We stayed at Yosemite Pines after leaving S Lake Tahoe on our way to Yosemite National Park. The area was in a drought for 5 years until this April, so most everything around there is pretty parched...so I'm guessing the condition of this RV Park (and others) has suffered. Certainly not lush like the photos on their brochure and website. We were lucky to get a spot on short notice for our 25' motorhome with toad and were grateful we did not have to unhook. We were escorted to our spot. Our site (#65) was mostly red dirt, with dried up grass around the edges. Very un-level...like 7". The difficult thing to deal with was all the stickers (not the sharp kind) that attached themselves to our dogs feet and legs...tons of them. It was super dusty, which I imagine is better than the opposite...mud, which I can see being a big issue when it rains. Little shade in our spot, but there is ample shade in other spaces. There were plenty of RV's of all types and sizes. Lots of families. There is a petting zoo with a couple of donkeys, a llama, rabbit and goats. Fun for the kids. Speaking of kids...we don't have them, but this seems to be a great campground for kids...nice pool, petting zoo, playground area, with bocce ball, Horseshoes, tetherball, etc. Another positive for Yosemite Pines is the proximity to Yosemite N.P. - about 30 min away. The drive up from the north was pretty steep and twisty. No problem for our 42' total length Sprinter chassis RV with toad, but we got behind a 5th wheel that was really struggling.

We didn't use the showers, but the restrooms were clean.

The camp store is well appointed with a few items for camping and snacks. There is a small Deli, which makes sandwiches, etc to take with or eat in. We had breakfast burritos, toast,
bacon, etc...all made to order. There is a great, large, raised dog wash. If you tent camp, prefer Yurts, want a cabin, have a group, this spot is worth considering. It's plenty big and there seemed to be a number of groups. The brochure said there is propane and a dump station. We didn't use the Tengo WiFi and we didn't have cable at our spot...actually, don't think it was working since they scratched it out on our paperwork. Best I could tell, for proximity to Yosemite and offerings, this is one of the best options in the area. Not the best place we stayed on our trip, but felt safe and staff plenty friendly...it is just dusty and dry (drought) and older. I could see, if this area were to recover from the drought, this being quite an oasis.

We were there on July 5 and managed to get a spot by calling that same day. It was crowded, so might be good idea to reserve during peak season. We camped at Yosemite Pines RV Resort & Family Lodging in a Motorhome with toad and did not have to unhook it.

Okay if there are no other choices

We planned on staying in the area on our way back towards home and took a chance on this spot, even though reviews were few and very old. We called ahead and gave our cc as a deposit, but the woman said to call and cancel if we changed our mind. That should have been a clue. We arrived in Raton and saw SummerLand down in a little valley. We drove our motorhome and toad through and quickly decided we were going to cancel. Mostly full-timers and older RV's. The spaces were very tight and the place was pretty much run-down. I hate to write bad reviews, but since there hasn't been on on SummerLand in ages...I felt compelled to write a review to save other's the trouble. I suppose if there are absolutely no other choices, this would be an okay spot to overnight. Definitely not up to par with the places we generally stay.

We had no trouble cancelling without a charge. The woman picked up the phone and said, "let me guess, you're going to cancel". Guess that happens too often.

Great place to overnight on the Loneliest Road in America

Silver Sky Lodge RV Park, Eureka, Nevada

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating: 4 stars

My rating is given in context for where this is located and other available options. This is the Loneliest Road in America. Middle of nowhere. Flat, barren, etc. You'd be hard pressed to find an oasis of trees and plush grass in the area. Best I could tell, there are no resorts or fancy campgrounds anywhere around. Because of our driving mileage when passing through, Eureka was a good place to stop. If, like us, you find yourself looking for a safe, clean place to overnight that has full hookups, this is your place! We were quite impressed with this small, little campground. It's like a parking lot...no trees, no frills. For the area...it's top notch. The owner takes pride in his campground and was incredibly friendly and helpful. As a matter of fact, he is one reason we have such a good impression of this spot. He's a plumber and clearly handy, so the hookups were in great shape. There was even a little patch of artificial turf next to each site. Only complaint was it was pretty un-level...like 5". We survived though. ;-) There is an office with bathrooms, which they were in the process of remodeling. Since the owner left before we did, we left the money in an envelope in the door slot...he didn't seem to stressed about making sure we paid ahead of time. For the area and compared to the other options we saw along the LR, it's worthy of a high rating. If you require resort type facilities...you'd be better served planning your drive so you can stay in a larger town, such as Ely, NV or Carson City, NV, where they have more choices and services. We'd stay here again if we happen to find ourselves in the area. (Most) sites are pull-thru with full hookups, long enough for our 25' motorhome with toad.

Great spot to camp

This might just be the best spot to,camp in the area. Plenty of trees, hookups, bathroom and showers, etc. Close to restaurants and a cinema. Bike trails. Fire pits, picnic tables and friendly staff. We came through on a Tuesday night , right after the hours of operation, but the park ranger was there and helped us and two others. There were plenty of other campers, but we weren't on top of one another. Our pull- through spot was gravel and relatively level. We were very pleased with this campground. Bring your mosquito spray!
