Lots of Problems with Utilities

The turn into the resort and the turns throughout the resort are tight. It doesn't help that they have parking on one side of the road. When we checked in, we were given a 24-page rule/regulation book. We were also given a nametag that we had to keep pinned to our shirt whenever we were in the park. I wasn't too happy about that. I don't like putting holes in my clothes. The site tilts towards the street, so we had to use leveling blocks under our front wheels. We had problems with our water and electric, and found out later that several people have the same problems. When we tried to hook up the utilities, the electric didn't work. We called the office. By the time someone came to help, my husband had played around with it and had gotten it working. Two days later, the electricity went out again. This time my husband couldn't get it working. We had someone from maintenance come out, and he managed to get it on. A couple of days later, we had no water. Three phone calls and almost an hour and a half later, the manager came to look at it. He had no tools. We had to hook up our water hose to the neighbor's pedestal. The next day they got our water going. During the two months we were there, we had a few more power outages and more problems with the water. The office closes at 4 pm. If you have a problem after that, you have to call the guardshack. There's not much they can do since the maintenance men are not on duty, and the manager doesn't have any tools. Needless to say, we will not return to this park.

Very Nice, Friendly Park

We are wanderers. Since we hit the open road four years ago, we haven't stayed in one place for more than two months. We only spent one week here, but we felt like part of the community. If we ever decide to stop traveling, I think this will be where we settle. Now for the basics: There's a short paved road in the campground which has some potholes. Most of the roads are well-maintained gravel and dirt. The sites are roomy, level, and gravel & dirt. There's a picnic table but no fire ring. Some of the sites have trees. All of the buildings are clean. The laundry has four washers ($1.25) and four dryers ($1.00 for 60 minutes). The campground has lots of activities, including water aerobics. The clubhouse is nice and has an area that has a computer which is available for your use, a book exchange, and a comfortable sofa to sit and read or converse with another guest. We were there on Halloween and attended the party. We had a wonderful time. There was a band and dancing and everyone brought snacks to share. The best part though is that everyone treats you like you've been friends for years.

Tip: Although Tombstone has touristy things like gunfight reenactments, it also emphasizes its true history. We thought we'd spend a couple of hours there, we ended up spending the whole day and going back once more.

Nice, quiet campground

This is a very nice RV park. The sites are long and level and on cement pads. There's a nice picnic table at each site, and the grounds are well-kept. The building in which the office is located also has a lounge area with a tv and a book/video exchange, a gift shop, the laundry, and the restrooms/showers. That's also where the pool and hot tub are located. Everything is clean and the people are very nice. The laundry has two double-size washers and a triple-size washer and four large dryers. The double-size washers are $2.50 and the dryers are $0.25 for 10 minutes. I did what normally would have been 2 wash loads for $3.75. We walked along the riverwalk and watched the boats going up and down the Mississippi River. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Tips:
Cajun Specialties Meats & Seafood at 4321 Carter Street (Rt. 84) has good meat at reasonable prices; some prices are even lower than the grocery stores. It is family owned and operated, and the people in there are very friendly and helpful.

Bowie's Tavern at 100 Main St in Natchez: We stopped in after a day of site-seeing and had their lemon-pepper wings. They were so good, we went back twice more during our two-week stay.

Nice, quiet campground

If you need tv (unless you have satellite), wifi (unless you have a personal hotspot), and phone service (unless you're willing to travel 5 miles into town), this is not the place for you. But if you enjoy peace and quiet in a beautiful setting, you'll like this campground. There's an upper and a lower campground. You have to go up a steep hill to get to the upper campground so we stayed in the lower one, and we're glad we did. The upper campground is where the tent sites are located, and they're put to good use by scout troops and school groups on the weekend. The road into the campground is narrow, but the campground was practically empty while we were there so it wasn't an issue. The campground is a perfect place to relax, the people are nice, and the museum and battlefield are free for campers. You can wash your RV for $5 and your car for $2. The laundry has two washers ($1) and two dryers ($0.75). There's a shower/restroom at the upper campground. The shower/restroom/laundry for the lower campground is at the top of a hill, but there are stairs to get to it or you can drive up to it. Since we would rather use the shower and bathroom in our RV anyway, this wasn't a concern for us.

tip:
The Old Country Store Restaurant on Rt. 61 in Lorman has an all-you-can-eat buffet for $15.95 that is absolutely great. Home-cooked Southern food, including the best fried chicken we've ever had. If you're lucky, Mr. D will be there and will serenade you at your table.

Beautiful Campground

This is a beautiful campground with large shady sites. I would not suggest it for an overnighter, but if you're planning on staying a few days, it's very nice. The sites are unlevel, but once we got our coach leveled, we enjoyed our entire stay. The roads are paved; the sites are gravel. Each site has a picnic table. There are birdfeeders all around the campground. The people here are very friendly. The laundry room has only two washers ($1.50) and two dryers ($2). The entrance to the Natchez Trace is close. Walmart, a mall and grocery stores are just a few blocks away.

Nice, quiet campground

We chose this campground because it is right across the street from the entrance to the Natchez Trace Parkway. When we pulled in, the only building we saw was a restaurant. It was closed. I called the campground's phone number and was told "I see you. I'm coming." Noel showed up in a golf cart and led us on a narrow gravel road to our site. They don't take credit cards, just cash or check. We had a long, level 50-amp site. The hookups are very far apart. There is no laundry, no over-the-air tv reception and no cable. I found that to be a good thing. We relaxed in the evening. Read books, took walks. Turns out the restaurant is open from 4-9 pm Thursday through Saturday and from 11 am-3 pm on Sunday. The food is very good. The people here are nice. They treat you as if you've been neighbors for years. We'll stay here again if we return to this area.

Very Nice

We only stayed one night at this campground and that was in the overnight section, so I don't know how it would be for a long stay. I think I'd like to come back and spend some time here. The people in the office are very nice. The sites are long and level. The hook-ups convenient, except for the cable tv. We were in site 58; site 57 would have been better for the cable. That is on a pole shared by two sites, so it is close for one site but far for the other.

Not Great

This could be a very nice campground. The sites are level. The people are nice. They have a nice pool and a fish pond (catch & release - no license required) with a park bench and several picnic tables so you can watch the ducks, frogs and turtles. BUT...the roads are narrow and not maintained. There are huge potholes that fill up with muddy water when it rains, and there are a lot of permanent and seasonal residents who don't keep their RVs or their sites clean. Not worth the price, even with Passport America. We won't be coming back.

Beautiful Campground

This is a beautiful, shady campground about a mile and a half from I-95. You have to drive almost half a mile down a dirt road to get into the campground, but the road isn't bad. The sites are nice and roomy. We stayed one night in site 7, a long, level pull-through site. We would definitely stay here again.

Looks nice, but lots of problems

This campground looks great. There are lots of trees, but also sunny sites. We watched cows nursing their babies in the pasture, and you can buy farm-fresh eggs at the campground store. So why the low rating? (1) The electricity fluctuated. It spikes up and down. First you'll have 120 volts. A few hours later it'll drop to less than 110. (2) The water pressure also fluctuates. You'll have good pressure, then in the middle of your shower it slows down. (3) Ants, lots of them, invading our RV. This problem probably could have been alleviated somewhat if they cut the grass more often. It was over my ankles. (4) The trash cans were overflowing. Apparently, it is picked up on Fridays. Which means that the trash generated by the many weekenders sits there for a full week.
