Beautiful Gulf Coast Park
Great park for only $18 per night. We stayed 4 nights in a Class A. There was hardly anyone there so we had the place to ourselves, it seemed. When we arrived, the spot we'd reserved did not have working electricity so we had to move, sort of a hassle at 10:30 at night. The pull thru pads are concrete and level. Each has a picnic table and fire pit. Free laundry, 2 washers and 2 dryers, big kind, very clean.
The showers were spotless, although you want to use the one closer to the park entrance as the other one didn't have shower curtains and the water was only semi-hot. The one near the entrance was perfect.
The park is very strict about all the rules, which is probably how they keep everything so clean but if felt a little oppressive. Got scolded by the camp host for trying to glance in to see the showers with my dog in tow. No dogs allowed on the beach, etc. We pick up after our dogs but I suppose everyone doesn't.
The maintenance guy (I think his name was Bob) was very nice and friendly and knew a great deal about the island wildlife.
The hiking trails around the salt water marshes are nice and again, no one else on the trails in the entire 3 days we hiked there.
One down side is that the shrimp boats heading to and from sea were very loud with their diesel engines drowning. Helicopters flew in and out (although not right over grand isle, it seemed) to the oil rigs offshore a lot. Too bad because other than that, it was super quiet.
Nice park, nice facilities, great price.
