Good but not perfect

First off the scenery is excellent. We had a spot right near the beach. Was very nice to listen to the waves as you are going to sleep. There is a good bit to do in the area and the town of beufort is a must visit.

Sites are big enough but a lot of them seem like they just stuck a post somewhere and called it a site. There are no real boundaries where one ends and another begins. Some people were set up on top of each other.

One flaw would be the bathrooms. Very dated. Mostly clean but you have to catch them on an off time if you want hot water in the shower. We had heard the stories about the raccoons being a nuisance. We only saw 2 and they pretty much kept to themselves. The nuisance were the biting gnats. Bring plenty of off. Also this is a dog lovers place. If you don't like dogs, stay away. We saw several running loose on the beach and one attacking other people walking their dogs. Park ranger finally got him. They tend to bark all night too. Bring a white noise maker if you want to sleep in peace.

We keep going back

This park is within 20 minutes of our house. It has nice amenities and a offers a relaxing get a way. We have a 3 year old and the playground is a must visit. Hiking trails are good but not challenging. The marble mine trail is a good one. The sites themselves are semi private. Not stacked on each other. The park attendant is very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this to anyone in the area just looking to stay a night or two.
