Beautiful Park but some Challenges

This is a large Encore park with plenty of activities/amenities. There were lots of families and it can get a little busy during the day with lots of people out and about on bicycles, skateboards, etc., but all of our neighbors observed quiet hours. There is some nearby airport noise but it's minor. Nice and quiet in the evening. Park is pet friendly and there is a large fenced dog park on Loop G.

The roads are well paved but narrow. The sites are soft dirt and leveling is somewhat challenging but not terrible. Some campers with larger rigs were not able to fully extend their awnings due to the trees but we did not have a problem. Try to avoid arriving after dark, as the site numbering system is a little chaotic and not visible after sunset.

The picnic tables are old wooden tabletop/benches with cement bases. They are NOT comfortable or movable. It appears they are slowly replacing the older tables with aluminum frame tables that can be moved.

Amenities vary by site, so I recommend pulling up the online park map and calling the reservation number directly. You cannot pick your spot online and I’ve seen some other reviews on other sites stating they didn’t get what they thought they had reserved. By speaking with the representative directly, I was able to pick our space in advance. We reserved a spot in loop E and were quite happy with it.

WiFi and LTE connectivity are definitely a problem here. Because this park is so large, I believe site location may be a reason for many mixed reviews. In Loop E, AT&T hot spot did not work at all. Verizon hot spot worked some of the time but was very slow and sometimes did not work at all. We purchased the park WiFi and had troubles immediately. We called the support desk number on the login page and they worked some magic on their end to get us connected.

We camped here for 4 nights and enjoyed our stay. We will return.

TIPS:
Great restaurants within walking/biking distance. Strongly recommend Ernie's Coffee Shop for Breakfast/Bruch. Food is great, coffee is great, bloody marys are fantastic.

Lake Tahoe Pizza Company (across the street) is a MUST. Some of the best pizza I've ever had and the salad bar is great, too.

Smart and Final within biking distance and other grocery stories, pharmacies, etc. nearby.

Lake is 6 miles away.

Not Worth It

Stayed here for 2 weeks to visit our son; CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS CAMPGROUND.
PROS: FHU, have to request a 50 amp site. I made my reservation months in advance online, would not guarantee a site #, even after I called a week ahead to confirm. Arrived to a 30 amp site that was too tight, had to go back & complain to get moved to a 50 amp site.
If you like tall pine trees and an occasional bear, this is a good place for you.
CONS: No discount for extended stay = $54/night
Weak WiFi, could not log on most days. West AT&T signal, no Verizon. Tall trees = difficult DISH signal.
Terrible entrance, either of 3 possible choices, not well marked from Hwy. 50. Rough roads, partly paved, so many pine needles it was hard to tell road from not road. Poor signage for the interior roads to find your site, roads wind in and around all the trees, sites not well marked.
Dusty dirty sites, not paved at all.
Airport just behind campground, lots of helicopter and plane noise. Airport is used for military high-altitude training at times with heavy helicopter traffic.
Not many RV choices in South Lake; but I would rather not stay here again.

Frustration

So we booked 5 days. I get a call offering to put us in a site that would be close to our friends they tell me the site is a great site a lot bigger then they had us in. It would cost us more to go in to the site. Now we booked our trip months ago so I don't understand why the had to change our site so we could be close to our friends. (up sale ?)
We got in to town after dark. DON'T DO THIS. The park is so dark at night and the road around the park is lined with trees. One of those trees took out the side of my 5th wheel. We finally get to our new site and we cant get it to the site and even if we could it's not wide enough for us to pull out our slides. We finally ended up leaving and spending the night in a grocery store parking lot. Trip ruined trailer damaged having to go back home missing our vacation.

Not 5 star

This is not a 5 star resort. A glorified campground. All sites are dirt. We requested a pull through. They said first come first serve. We showed up at 10 for noon checkin. That way we would get first choice. We were given s back in, extremely u level site. So unlevel we used all out jack pads and had to go buy more. After using 6 pads, the front tires were still off the ground. We complained at front desk, they said tough. So we bought chocks and blocks. $ 68 extra stuff to get level. Wi-fi slow or non-working. Cable TV hookup and we got 2 channels. Worst place I've ever stayed and will not come back charged us holiday rate on July 2.

Fun campground in Tahoe

We camped here for 2 months. It is the only campground in Tahoe with no maximum stay limits. It's a bit pricey, but it is Tahoe! They have some fun activities for families - Kareoke night, Movies, ice cream socials & pancake breakfasts on the weekend.

The sites are lined up like a parking lot, but you aren't right on top of each other. They provide a picnic table & FHU if you like, including cable. All different rates. The bathrooms are clean & heated on cold mornings. We didn't use the laundry room but saw a lot of "out of order" signs. They have a nice big heated pool & there are a ton of trails from the campground. It is located at the "Y" walking distance to restaurants, markets & more.

We camped here in a motorhome & will be back summer of 2011 for 3 months.
