Huge park
No swimming pool, but a lake. And that was closed when we were there. How do you close a lake, you may say. Well, you put a barricade across the road and tell people it's closed. Oh, well.
We found 2 campgrounds, both very open. Trees at lots of the sites. Gravel sites but mainly level. Restrooms/showers are unique. Be sure to visit them. There are 2 showers tucked around 2 corners of the building. The building only has an overhang over the sinks; the roof is not continuous. The stools/urinals and sinks are under about 4' of the overhang. And this park is open all year round. Just imagine using the bathroom while it is snowing or raining! Where else can you stargaze while sitting on 'the throne'?
Don't be fooled by the price structure. Camping is $7.50 and sites with utilities (water and electric) are $9. But they are additive, so it's really $16.50. Confused us!
In addition, we had a hard time finding someone to pay. Went to a couple of different places. Didn't see that you had to reach into the bottom of the self-pay envelope holder to pull one out. Tried to open it from the top and it was locked.
The park person was most delightful and apologetic about the situation. Said they had removed some of the signs because 'people don't read them anyway.'
Lots of dumps with long entries.

I am from Lawrence and love this park. It is a fairly large lake with boat rentals at the marina. The campsites are large and spacious. Bloomington has the best spots, my favorite is Walnut area. Lawrence is a great town only 20 minutes from the lake. Visit Mass Street for excellent restaurants and small local shops, as well as bigger names like Gap, Urban Outfitters, etc. Freestate Brewery is a must stop, the local hangout with a delicious menu and excellent beers.
