Stop on the way to Mt Rushmore
Well it is not the greatest park, but all the people we met made for an enjoyable time. Bathrooms clean pull thru site with all the hookups for 20 per night great deal. All sites are wooded with plenty of shade not much to do in the area unless you are visiting blue mound state park 20 min away.
Repeatedly oversold and overcrowded :(
We have relatives just north of town, and have driven through the park several times this year with intent to stay. Each and every time we've stopped, it was sold out. That's nice to see in this economy, except the campground was always over crowed with trailers and RVs, many parked so close to each other their slideouts and awnings darn near touch, couldn't tell where one spot ended and next began. Says 90 spots, we counted upwards of 200 campers and RVs set up on multiple visits.
The (offsite but nearby) dump station is nice and clean, but hard to navigate to since it's on the wrong side of a two-way road; you wind up making a tight/sharp 120-degree left turn against traffic at a Y intersection after turning your rig around in a nearby parking lot. Definitely something the city should redesign for safety.
Based on our observations of several visits, we don't recommend this campground. :( Nor the dump station unless you have a smaller rig.
Nice campground, next to i90, but not to close.
Nice, with shady sites. Lots off grass for kiss to play.
