A Step Back in Time
I love love LOVE Wright's Lake. We used to camp there when I was a child (over 30 years ago) - and it hasn't changed much since then. There are paved RV/Trailer spots with 25' or 50' lengths - and a couple of 'family sites' which can accommodate two families/groups. There are also many tent sites & there is an equestrian loop for those with horses. The lake itself is medium sized with no gasoline or electric motors/boats allowed. The main reason for that is that the lake is fairly shallow & there are NUMEROUS submerged/partly submerged boulders - but the fact that there is no motor noise is really nice. The sites are $20-$36. Reservations are generally required in July & August but September & October are 'walk-in', so you just find the spot you want & grab it. If the weather is nice enough in June they open early. There is a great day-use area as well. Restrooms are 'pit' toilets w/ no showers, but there are water faucets near all the restrooms so there is water to clean up, etc. The road into the campground is narrow & windy & it took us about 30 minutes from highway 50 to the lake. Several times we had to pull to the side for others to pass. Even though there is a sign that reads RVs & Trailer not advised, there were plenty of trailers going up (and even some RVs with trailers). There are nice walking & hiking trails in the area & the lake is perfect for canoeing, kayaking, or lazily floating in an inner tube or on an inflatable mattress. The water is a bit chilly, but on a hot summer day it feels fabulous!
