Low frills, low cost
Not much to do but a fairly quiet place to spend one night or even a few more. The traffic noise from nearby Main Street quiets down around dusk and is pretty quiet all night long. Level asphalt paved sites, a few pull thru's but mostly back-in sites. Generous space between sites. Satellite antenna works well at nearly any site, a few over the air channels are available.
Because this is a city owned park it isn't private meaning anyone can drive or walk thru the place at any time of day/night. That wasn't really a problem but you do have to get used to vehicle traffic occurring a few times per day.
We stayed here 4 nights in a travel trailer and would stay again.

Horseshoe Pond
Quiet. Great for what we needed. Restaurant across hwy. A few trails to walk.
Location:
Horseshoe Pond County Park is on the east side of S. Main St., on the south edge of Maquoketa. Take the S. Main St. exit off Hwy 61, and head north. The park will be on your right, and the Salvation Army Citadel will be in front of you when you enter the park.
