Defeated Creek COA
Defeated Creek campground is located in the upper Cumberland Plateau North-East from Nashville and approximately 10 miles from Carthage TN and 17 miles off of I-40. This is a very scenic area with large rolling hills and pastel scenery. This park is situated on a peninsula surrounded by Cordell Hull Lake fed by the Cumberland river and Defeated Creek. It has approx. 150 campsites with many directly on the water. It has a beach, boat ramp, marina with boat rentals, a café, cabins and modern bath houses. There is a full hook up loop and all the rest have water and electric. Activities are all water oriented with fishing, swimming water sports etc. The lake is beautifully nestled in surrounding hills and has lovely sunsets, misty morning and plenty of wild life. If you visit during a quiet time you’ll see deer nonchalantly grazing in the campground. This is ‘river-lake’ with navigable waters and channel markers. It also has a lot of floating organic debris and you won’t see as much skiing as on other lakes, its more fishing oriented. There is little if any cell service here. I had 1 to 2 bars lakeside but none further up in the campground. The joke is if you need to make a call go up to the playground and stand near the slide. I’m told there is Verizon coverage here. I recommend this campground based on its natural beauty, easy access to the lake, an onsite café and a well-stocked marina.
Scenic Campground
Defeated Creek is an Army Corps campground located on Cordell Hull Lake near Carthage TN. This CG is on the scenic Cumberland Plateau nestled in lush hills on a deep water lake. The CG is relatively level and primarily open with a dabbling of shade trees throughout the park. The sites are spacious so you never feel like you are sitting at your neighbors S‘more party. Quite a few are full hook up and most are level with many lake front sites and all but a couple of dozen have lake view. This is a quiet, well maintained campground about an hour’s drive from Nashville. There are two boat ramps and a marina with fishing supplies etc. including jet skis pontoon and fishing boat rentals. There is a restaurant next door and a stage where they occasionally feature music on summer weekends.
The CG is somewhat remote so does not have a lot of area activities but is a great campground for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surrounding scenery.
