We made the mistake of reserving a campsite only a week before for Labor Day weekend. We could see a rough approximation of where the campsite is on the on-line map, but we couldn’t see that it was on a 20 degree incline. Level sites were only a coincidence. There were no other campsites available, so we managed to turn the RV parallel to the road and overflowing into the next campsite a bit and then raised the heck out of the one side. Most of the campsites are quite wooded; luckily this one wasn’t. There are campsites on each side of the road, with the water side and sort of level sites obviously the preferred side. When you make a reservation, they ask for the length of your trailer; no chance to input total RV size. We erred in putting in our RV size; should have put in a smaller size and perhaps we would have gotten a better, more appropriate site. The restrooms are pretty minimal. We chose to take showers in the RV rather than in their showers. We didn’t have a water hookup, but we did have electricity.
The town of Long Lake is only about a mile and a half away. There was a rustic art show on the weekend we were there and we don’t carry a toad, so we stayed away because it looked like parking would be impossible. However, we went to the WILD Center in Tupper Lake; don’t miss it. It’s a natural history museum of the Adirondacks but it’s so much more. It’s also an easy drive to Lake Placid. There were also lots of boaters and fishermen in the campground.
The campground opens in mid-May and closes on Columbus Day.
