Don't believe your Garmin
The park is beautiful. We got a full hook-up site for one night on our way to the Puget Sound. We programmed the Garmin to the street address 7880 Hwy 84 but it wouldn't use that address...so i tried to program it to find Memaloose State Park which it was happy with. BUT, it took us up a very crooked and narrow road to the top of the cliffs above the river and then wanted us to turn down a very narrow dirt road. We found our way back to Hwy 84 and backtracked. If you are heading west on Hwy 84, you need to go past exit 76 about 3 miles to the reststop and then you will find it. If you are heading east on Hwy 84 then you will exit 76 and then cross the highway and go west about 3 miles. Otherwise, nice place.
Perfection!
Wanting to spend a couple days along the Columbia River Gorge before entering Portland, we decided to stop in Memaloose SP to check it out and see if we could snag a last minute full hook-up site.
It's easily accessible via the westbound reststop - although kinda weird to enter your SP via one.
The park is absolutely beautiful, and we pulled into a full hook-up site along the interstate. All sites are very roomy and well separated. The full hook-up sites on the B loop are magnificent with river views, but also tend to be booked up. We were grateful to find a site for 3 nights, and being next to the interstate really wasn't all that bad.
There's not too much to do at the park itself, no real trails and no access to the water. But we got plenty of walking in just roaming the campground.
This was a perfect stop for us.
We had solid Verizon LTE and AT&T 4G signal.
Wow!
The Columbia Gorge is dramatic. Lots of water, trains, barges, trucks, cars all run through it in volume. Who would expect a beautiful Oregon campground just off I84? Smooth blacktop roads leading to smooth level campsites. Some with a nice view of the mighty Columbia River.
Of necessity, the campground is wedged between I84 and the railroad line next to the river. All campsites have access to clean, tiled bathrooms and showers with one separate family shower complete bathroom.
Even the designated tent sites (which only have water) are large and can be used for shorter RVs. Other sites have full utilities. All for $20 after October 1. Campground is open all year round. Excellent staff Beverly at the entrance. Neither the trains nor the highway kept up awake even though we had our bedroom window open.
