Great location!

We stayed here for a week while rendezvousing with a fellow nomadic friend, and to take care of some tow vehicle maintenance. The location was fantastic for being accessible to everything we needed, and right next to public transit.

It is located right off the interstate, so it's not exactly scenic but the sound isn't too bad.

The spaces were a mix of small and large, and they were creatively crammed in to maximize the space while not feeling too overcrowded. Our biggest disappointment was the hot tub hours and how strict they were on enforcing them (a common complaint we have at these so-called 'resorts'). Beyond having a pool and hot tub, there's really not much else resort like however.

The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating, and even upgraded us for free to a premium spot next to our friend.

We had excellent Sprint and AT&T signal while here with 3G.

Awesome park!

We selected this park while we tried out workamping at the nearby Amazon.com fulfillment center. Elk City State Park is a fantastic park - very beautiful, with lots of hiking trails. Our only regret is that we weren't at camp often enough to fully enjoy it, as Amazon had us working 60 hrs a week.

The spaces are very well spread out, so you get a sense of privacy. Some spots even have sewer hook-ups, the others Amazon provided honey-wagon service.

If you're considering this park while workamping at Amazon, know that it is a good 20-30 minute drive each way. During the last couple weeks of the peak season leading up to Christmas, this can get grueling. But during your 3 days off a week pre-Thanksgiving, this is definitely a worthwhile drive to be home somewhere relaxing.

We had a solid 3G signal on both AT&T and Sprint (the tower is in view of the park), and the town of Independence offers all the basics you'll need for your stay.

Family Fun

Mohican Adventures offers mini golf, canoeing, kayaking and other adventures across the street from the campground for an extra charge. It's designed to be more of a family get a way, than a relaxing retreat.

The RV area is nothing special - close to the road with scenic views of the nearby gas station. Paved roads to gravel spot, some pull thru.

As this is an activity center, all campers are required to wear a wrist band their entire stay- which gets you entrance to the pool and bathrooms, and discounts at local businesses.

Not entirely our kind of place (as we don't have kids), but would imagine it'd be a fun family thing for those that do. Pricing is by the person, not the site.

Absolutely no AT&T signal, good Sprint signal (3G) and Verizon was marginal. Wifi is offered for about $5/day, and our friends reported it was speedy.

Location. Location. Location.

Location. Location. Location. It's what this park has. Easy walking distance to the French Quarter.

The park itself is newer, well maintained and the staff friendly. The Wi-Fi worked great the entire time we were there. The courtyard is very pretty and relaxing - providing fitness room, pool, hot tub, laundry and private bath suites. The spots all provided ample room, we didn't feel crowded at all.

We were warned to take a taxi at night to get back to the park, but we felt extremely safe walking around the area after walking 15 miles all over New Orleans. There's graffiti on the building next door that says 'TV Off. Brain On.' We found that clever, not scary! The neighborhood kids we met were all charming.

The downsides include:

- Pricey. You *pay* for this location. This was a splurge for us (we're full-timers), and felt it was worth it tho considering the other options.

- They lock the courtyard from midnight-6a. Which is annoying if you want to use the bathroom or take a shower after a late night on the town. I guess they presume everyone has ample bath space in their rigs, as they generally cater to luxury class rigs (which is not us).

- It could use some landscaping - while clean, it feels a bit barren.

- Right next to the interstate. We stayed midway in the park - it wasn't too bad. They seem to place older rigs at the back of the park under the interstate, keeping the shinier ones up front.

All and all tho, if you want to be near the FQ, this is the place to be.

Great location!

We're younger full time RVers, and needed to be accessible to downtown San Francisco. We found this park and were thrilled that it's just a couple blocks from a BART station. We were pleasantly surprised with how comfortable it was to stay here for a few months. Decent food nearby (the Salvadorian place across the street is great!), shopping (Trader Joe's within walkin distance!) and accessible to all areas of the Bay Area.

The park is a eclectic mix of full time residents in single wide trailers, other folks in RVs working in the area on contract and some overnighters. The park is older, sparse on amenities - but functional and in a safe feeling area of town.

We stayed in the front area with other trailers/motorhomes (some newer, some older), and everyone was super friendly and trustworthy. The staff was awesome and friendly. This turned out to be a wonderful, and affordable, place to set up in as a base of operations while we needed to be in the area. We would not hesitate to return if we were wanting to stay long term in the area again.

We paid a monthly rate of $625 plus electricity, with putting up a deposit.

Ok as a last resort

We stayed here while attending SXSW (Music/Film Festival), and our stay started off with a negative taste in our mouths. Upon making our online reservation at the rate quoted, they called us saying the rate would be even higher because they were so busy. With no other options near town available, we had no choice but to reluctantly accept it.

We were placed in the front of the park, which is quite noisy from interstate traffic. (Further back gets much quieter). The sites are fairly well spaced, but pretty packed in too, and there's nice trees and bushes between them. The WiFi worked fine, facilities were clean and the staff was super friendly. The bathrooms where private shower/toilet suites: quite nice. The hot tub was however, closed our entire stay.

Getting in and out of the park is frustrating, as you have to travel about 3 miles further to get back on the interstate frontage road when coming in from the north. While there is a back entrance that would make things easier, it's alays locked. You're also required to put down a $20 cash deposit on a gate transponder which you can only get back if you check out during business hours.

Families be warned: there's an adult megastore right next door. All and all: we would consider this park as a decent last resort when staying in Austin.

Classic RV Park, Hip Part of Town

Pecan Grove is THE place to stay in Austin if you want to be in the middle of all that is cool. Located in the trendy Barton Springs area, you're right next to lots of dining options, Zilker Park and the fabulous Town Lake hike & bike trail. The park itself is a mix of long term residents and short term folks, and an over abundance of Air Streams. Everyone here is super friendly and welcoming.

The short term sites are a mix of pull throughs, some close to the road and some tucked back into the park. Don't expect much in terms of space around you (unlike their monthly spots, which many feature nice yards) - you're here for the location and atmosphere! Each site has electricity, water and sewer.

Getting a reservation can be a challenge - they don't even have a website, and they're often full up. Call early, especially if there are events going on in town.

We had excellent 3G service on Sprint & AT&T.

Pleasant Surprise!

We stopped in on a whim while passing through just to see what was available (we were considering just over nighting at the Wal-Mart nearby).

What a treat!

Extremely friendly staff who were delighted to have walk-ins. We were impressed by the huge size of the spots and how well maintained everything was. Beautiful walking trails, and the boardwalk out to the dock was amazing in the sunset light. Saw 4 manatees in the morning.

Only downside was that cellular phone service (AT&T and Sprint) was spotty (we work online as we travel).

Gem of a Find!

Hill Shade RV Park is a gem of a find: we're almost reluctant to post this review for fear of it becoming too popular to get into in the future.

It's run by an incredible family homeschooling their five kids, who are all involved with the management of the park. The staff is extremely accommodating, welcoming and friendly. This family purchased the park in Aug 2009 as their dream, and it shows in everything about the park: from the signage to the cleanliness.

The location is perfect: fairly remote and very peaceful, but yet a reasonable drive into San Antonio, Austin, Sequin, Houston, etc. There are docks nearby, and the neighbors appreciate the park and its visitors. The sunsets are amazing to watch.

The park itself is small, and the sites a bit close together. But most sites back up to huge fields, so it doesn't feel too crowded. There's a nice common area with horseshoes, swing chairs and a BBQ grill. WiFi works fantastically, and good AT&T, Sprint & Verizon signal (T-mobile was not so great).

Great Option for Melbourne!

With limited options for RV camping in Melbourne, Wichkam Park offers a unique stay in a great area of town, for a reasonable cost. The Park itself offers swimming, hiking, trails, dog park, pavilions, frisbee golf, farmer's market, bingo and music festivals. It's a beautiful and busy park next to the community college.

The campground is enough off the main area of the park that you don't notice all the joggers, golfers and scout groups. It consists of two circles in what is essentially a big field. The spots are very level, some have shade - but there really isn't much distinction between the spaces (no gravel driveway, for instance). It's kinda odd.. but, this means you can position yourself anyway you like. The sites are pretty big.

During the winter, this location is pretty full - but during the summer, it's pretty empty. Rare for a public park - they offer weekly & monthly rates.

Each site has water & electric, and there is a dump station. The bathhouses are clean and well maintained, and there's coin laundry onsite. Excellent 3G signal on both AT&T and Sprint.
