A Jewel in Town
This is one of the nicest and friendliest campgrounds I've ever visited. It's set in the suburban town of Santee, just on the outside of San Diego. It's in a quiet neighborhood. The campground is adjacent to a park enjoyed by locals. There are constantly activities and you can be as little or much immersed in the small community as you choose to be. Paddleboats, fishing, hikes around the lake, a sparkling clean pool and so much more are included. It is a very 'green' park. Most of the electricity necessary is provided by the solar panels that cover the area RV's are stored. Every campsite and area are in constant state of being cleaned and maintained. Within a mile of the park are restaurants, shops, ice cream parlors, basically anything you might want to enjoy a vacation.
I find the hosts and staff to embrace great customer service attitudes. They are all there to insure you have a wonderful experience at Santee Lakes. Even though I live within a few miles of this wonderful park, my wife, grand children and I enjoy getting away and enjoy camping with other like-minded folks. Even the largest of coaches can be accommodated with the many large, drive-through spots.
Great Campground
We stayed at this campground for a week. The place was very clean, the staff, very helpful. Everyone we met there was pleasant. The kids loved the place. Despite many people claiming this place was overpriced and always booked, we found it reasonably priced and without a problem making a reservation. We will DEFINITELY return.
Nice place
We're locals and camp here often. Lots of things to do with a lake for fishing in, a pool, hot tub, splash zone in the recreation park but not close to the camp site. It's a 2 night min, and the price I paid were for both nights.
Excellent
Nice campsites, raked prior to arrival with full hookups. Shaded area. Nice breeze off the lake offset the hot august temperatures. Camp area volunteers were very helpful. Fun "get to know" your neighbor events, such as chili competition. Close to San Diego sights at reasonable rate. Pools clean, with plenty of reclining chairs. Although we did not take advantage of there was fishing and paddle boats. Very relaxing. Stayed 4 nights.
Maiden Voyage
We spents months looking for the right RV and found it in Santee, CA at Rice RV. A small family run place that went beyond anything I ever expected in customer service. After our purchase, they suggested we spend a night or two at Santee Lakes - no they are not affiliated or in business with them at all. It was merely a suggestion. We were so very happy they did. The people at Santee Lakes were amazing! They were patient, polite and answer all my myriad of questions. The other people camped near us were just as nice. One gentleman even helped us disengage - since it was our first time we were struggling a bit. However everything worked out great! In the morning we saw bunnies and lots of ducks on the lakes & even a gorgeous blue heron. The walking/biking trails were clean & smooth. The pool was clean. All the facilities we saw were very well lit at night and everything all around us was very clean. We would definitely return here again.
One of the nicest parks in San Diego
For a big-town park, this is fabulous. We stayed here for a few months a loved the open space and nearby hiking trails. It's far enough out of the city (~20 miles from San Diego) to be peaceful, but also close enough to get you to all the action. Sites are large, full hook-up, WiFi, clean toilets and great surroundings w/ the lakes. Most other parks in San Diego are more expensive & you're packed like sardines. This one's different. You'll see seasonal people come back several years in a row because it's so nice. Monthly rates are very decent. This is where we'll stay next time we're in town.
